After 40+ years of not running I put the original VIN stamped engine together and she is close to being put back into the car. I still have to paint the headers, and starter but she is healthy.
Enjoy the symphony of a HiPo 289.

Sounds great! Congrats on the resurrection.
There's wheels on the engine stand, so I hope you took it around the block a few times for good measure.

TV would be in the garage and that would be in the living room, My gosh, sounds amazing, Thanks for sharing
Soon in the car ! well done !
Sounds amazing Greg, well done. What was involved in getting it back together? Much work needed?
Cheers
I may try to record that sound on my phone and use it for my wake-up "music"!

It wasn't me but the original owners son in 2014. I bought the car from him last fall and have been working on getting the engine together. He still had the original sales paper work where it was bought from High Performance Motors. Super nice gentleman.

Thank you, not really, just a lot of cleaning. I cleaned up the bores with a really nice cross hatch. I'm running an Isky Cam with a 264 deg duration and a .506 valve lift to wake her up a bit so she has a mean lope to her and it also gives it a quick response. The crank was good, the pistons are new forged on the original rods, I also have the original pistons but I don't trust them. Blue printed the oil pump, put in a NOS timing chain, rebuilt the original distributor and carb. Heads and intake have never been cut and they were still true so there was no need to cut them. 12 deg BTDC initial timing is where its happy and runs well.

Very nice. Nothing quite like that sound! 8)
Very nicely done! Great sound. Will look forward to the video from when you first go around the block!

Nice Greg. Well done. She sounds great
Thanks to all!
I put it in the car today, pulled it in the garage under power and they are finally reunited after 45 + years. Now to tidy up a few things and melt the tires ;D!
pix of the car?
109...
Outside my garage, where it was stored in CA and when the owner pulled it out.
outstanding
Man, I love the look of that car, Greg. Well done!
Love it
Great looking piece. Enjoy
Thanks for sharing. Engine sounds beautiful! If that doesn't get you excited, you're already dead.

Great story ! here's a pic I have in files of 109, might have been on the old forum, where and when was that taken ? What is the book on the car that Texas Swede mentions ?
Mike
googled around and found some more on 109, here, if you scroll down further past the other Fords and Shelbys, there is a bit with lots of pics on a Shelby de Mexico which I think is/was in Australia ?

have also posted the link in the Shelby de Mexico thread.
