1967 GT500 #1262, stolen off the dealer lot in San Antonio, the thief's took the Hood and Front Nose off and replaced it w/ a regular production 1967 Mustang Hood and Nose.  To disguise the car, the thief's painted the entire car purple, over the badges, scoops, ect., that is why it is purple in the 1st picture from 1986.  The State of Texas recovered the car in 1968, bought at the State of Texas Auction in 1969, then it went to Oklahoma City.  Tee owner went to Ford and bought all the Shelby pieces available in 1970-1972, including the Hood and Front Nose, I used all the NOS parts gathered in the restoration.   I bought it from the original owner in 2002, fully restored in 2004, what fun it is to drive!

Pulled out of a barn in 2006, it had been sitting in the same spot since 1986.  Only replaced the interior, it is all original w/ 34,000 original miles.  She's a little rough, but they're original only once.

Ok JD, since you asked.  Here is a car I'm pretty sure you're familiar with...In case anyone here doesn't know, a few months ago I was lucky enough to purchase No. 26, an early GT350, from my very good friend JD.  He knew how much I really loved 'red light' 67's and after selling car no. 83, he offered me this beautiful car.

Hi JD, both GT500's came from Enid, OK along w/ a '66 Hertz and a '70 GT350.  My Uncle and I bought all 4, we still have all of them.  All the Shelby's were located in a barn along w/ other Mustangs, what a sight it was.  The White GT500 is #1927, a few more pictures below.

1969Redvert,
Would you be able to post a front and a rear view of #1262 . I'd like to see the grille light version and the taillight panel / rear valence version on your car.
Also car you post a rear view of #1927 for the same reason

Everyone,
If you would, please add you car number to your posts (if your willing to share)

Thanks,
Rich

Hello Everyone,

Here is 67411F--0100-ENG.  The first production GT500 built.  The first photo was taken on 12/27/79 when we brought the car home.  I was just 16 years old at the time.  The second photo is more recent.

Thanks,
Eric

Hello,

Thanks for the heads up about Mustang 360 using photos of my car.  That's kind of cool.  I don't know when the car lost its original KH Magstars.  I moved those '68 GT wheels onto a '70 Mustang fastback that I had for a few years.  They were on it when I sold the car back in 1994.

Thanks,
Eric

My 67 500 had/has same wheels..They are14by 6 and I am pretty sure we’re put on along with low profile tires because of the sagging springs ::)air shocks too.....The spare which is an original speedway 350 is on a crusty mag star though.......

I realized the flop after I posted, but then had to call my painter after I saw the side view pic. A previous owner put on the fender snake emblems ILO of the square badges and I had forgotten to weld up the additional holes in the front fender!
I originally thought the wheels were cool but they are 14's.
They currently reside on my son's GTA Mustang.

Mine suffered the same affliction (saggy springs and air shocks) when acquired. I pulled the air shocks out, put in a set of Koni's and quickly realized the air shocks where on it for a reason - and not a good one. The air shocks went back in until the restoration started. Live and learn.

.   Just a heads up...air shocks are a mistake on a mustang....Too much pressure on the upper mount if it’s bearing weight due to weak springs...Good way to blow the sheet metal out through the top..lI got lucky as I hammered on that car back in the day when I had the air shocks on..l :o :o

What were the headers that SA put on your car? What's on there now? The original heads are 8 bolt 427MR iron heads?

The headers on it now don't look familiar. Are they custom made?

What is that and what does it mean?  I don't know but would like to know.

Guess we haven't discussed this subject much over on this site. Sorry for going long but trying to describe a clear picture of the purpose and application. This could likely be used to start a new thread on the subject but will leave that to the owner of the site and management :)

This is the marking I was referring to in my earlier post

Its a Ford thing. At the car plant, because cars were not built in sequential order, the cars/bodies were assigned with temporary "rotation number" One for the assembly of the unibody assembly part of the build (first "half") then the bodies were placed in a holding area and rearranged in a new order and assigned a new number so that the line could flow smoothly and quickly by not placing difficult cars (example- big block, AC high option cars) one after the other but instead mixing in easier builds such as stripped down 6 cylinder or 289 builds. Cars/bodes were each assigned a second temporary rotation number to organize a series of cars in a new order and applied this number to the exterior of the still not complete car to the front of the car and the rear so workers could make out the number without looking at one of the copies of the buildsheets taped to the body. The second rotation number was identified/typed into the upper left hand corner of that buildsheet.

Workers, at the same time in remote areas of the plant, building sub-assemblies were using another copy of each cars buildsheet to build a needed assembly and at San Jose often wrote the  second rotation number on some of those sub-assemblies rather than attaching the copy of the buildsheet to the assembly as was done at many of the other car plants. Numbers used were in continuous rotation and not dependent on the start of a day shift end end of a month. This year and plant used numbers from 001 to 999 before beginning over again at 001

Its believed that this is one of the reasons we don't find as many copies of build sheets in San Jose cars.

For my earlier post I was referring to a number applied to the rear of the car posted in a position where the rear license plate would later cover. It was applied typically in a contrasting color to the exterior color - black or white as shown below. Depending on which of the three usual workers assigned this task the location can be found also under the rear bumper on the taillight panel as shown in the bottom right

Used Shelby examples for this response though the practice is the same on SJ built Mustangs. Have hundreds of examples :)

There was a question at the time about this being an upper scoop light car with out boards.
