Hi Guys in a 1966 shelby 4 speed car was the vin stamped on the transmission like the K codes were and were they a close ratio toploader , this car is a late 66 shelby .

1966 GT350H, #2122, purchased in 2005 from the person who bought of a lot in Joplin in 1967. The first picture is from 1970, the next from around 1975. The 3rd picture is when it was pulled out of the barn in 2005, then fully restored and beautiful again by 2009.

6S1431, owned since 1971, driven over 235,000 Miles. Three cross country trips, two time to the Bonneville Salt Flats for Speed Week, daily driver to the middle 80's, occasionally driven until 91-92, taken off road and sat in driveway uncovered for years. Restored and out back on road in 2012, driven to SAAC 40 and 41. Trailered to SAAC 42 (wife said I couldn't drive it because she wouldn't ride that far in it).

I am cheating a bit here in that this '66 GT350 wasn't "my" car but 6S101 was the first Shelby I ever saw. That's 17 year old me in its driver's seat in the Francis For Fords showroom in Harrisburg, PA in November of 1965.
I identified the car years later when friend Roger Cackovic, Sr, who was the de facto FFF "performance car manager' at the time, found the original dealer inventory card in his files.
If anyone knows where 6S101 is today, please contact me! It was last reported in the 1974 SOA Registry as being in Canada.

Here is a picture of 6S923 owned by my friend Roland in Sweden. As you can see the front
turn signal glass is white instead of amber. Swedish law says parking light must be white.
Also, I used to co-own this car until 1988. Originally owned by Claude Dubois in Belgium.
Claude removed the under-ride traction bars and put in a panhard rod. Today the car has both.

Please tell us more how you found and the story behind the car. Any pictures in it as found state with those muddy tires. Looks like someone was starting to strip paint off the car. Be careful on your restoration. A full tear down to the shell and back could take years without a good plan. I am assuming you might want to drive sometime as well. Enjoy the journey.

Thank you Jeff, truly without you we would have never known where to start and where to end! We took your advise and the car is now what we wanted. There are details for the next owner to work on as we just decided to keep some stuff original. Upholstery and door panels original, we kept our cracked steering wheel, did not re chrome the vent windows, kept our cracked plastic bezels for the plexiglass windows. Everything else though..nuts and bolt beautiful with factory details galore!! She is going up for sale soon, not sure how to handle that yet as my father wants me to take care of the sale. He wants to repaint it without the stripes as it did not come with, them not sure if that will help or hurt the sale. This car has been a passion of love. When my father bought it from his cousin back in 67 it sat in his garage almost its entire life with 39,000 original miles on the original engine and drive train. I remember as a kid just seeing it parked in the garage and thinking one day I would drive it. But when I got old enough and got my 65 fastback I just wanted it to be better and faster than the shelby..well I got faster but never better lol. Again Jeff you were pivotal in our build and owe so much to you, not to take away from everyones help, gaines, cowles, perkins, curylo to name a few and countless members here on this forum..to many names for me to remember but you all know who you are and gratitude goes out to you all as well. This community is outstanding with class act members. Thank you!

What an AWESOME day!
The wife and I headed north to a town called Fredricksburg (Texas ;)), and attended a wine / food festival; which was great in and of itself. The best part? We took the Carryover! It was a beautiful Texas day (70 degrees, sunny, not a cloud in the sky); which made for an incredible drive through the Texas Hill Country.
I had to snap a picture of my beautiful bride before we left for home.
And, for those who don't know me - yes, I am blessed to have married up ;D.

It had to run an alternator!... all accessories, suspension, interior, body panels as factory equipped. I just removed the alternator pulley which disengaged and free-wheeled one-way, charged the other. In the photo you can just make out the tow-bar that was used to get it to and from the track. 456 gears were ran (IIRC). The automatic was replaced with a 4-speed, but it was essentially stock with a Ford Power Parts Stage 5 engine using the original block that still sits in the engine bay.

843 - No longer mine. It had 200 pounds of bondo spoiler and flares on it when purchased. The trunk lid had enough weight Madame Guillotine would have been proud. I stuck some Maier flares on it - still with the 14x10 wheels and Caldwell recaps. Those proved to be a disaster in the rain and it hydroplaned into a phone pole at about 20-30 mph. After that it got stock fenders, quarters and an all steel hood. I sold it to deathsled who had the restoration finished at Legendary Motorcars. Photo is at a COCOA Concours-de-Nice where it won in the unrestored class. Second shot is one of Richard's as the car is today.
SFM 6S727. Purchased it January 26, 2021. I'm the third owner now after Hertz had it for a few years, 1st owner from 1969 to 1991 and second owner from 1991 to 2021. It is a legal B Production Race Car and participated in the Monterey Historics in 2007 and 2008. Was invited again in 2019 but the 2nd owner didn't take it. Very excited to get it.

My car 6S477 is one of those white with blue side stripe cars. So is 476 which was sent to the San Francisco area. Mine was used at LAX. There were other later white with gold stripes cars as well. The 18 with blue stripes did not have "roof stripes". I am the "third owner" (46 years now) with Hertz being the first.

Seen the Jerry Heasley YT video of 1502 and wondered what ever happened to it.
Wow, so cool to see it sitting there. The last time I seen this car was featured on Heasley's YT channel sunk up to its axles in leaves and dirt. And tons of rust.

The unrestored car in the video is not 1502. I don't have my registry handy at the moment to verify the number, but it is either a 62 or 82 not a 02.
1502 is alive and well and has been owned by it's current owner since 1998. 6S1502 attached. (photo was posted on the Shelby Owners GT350 1965 & 1966 Facebook group).

Hard to believe after removing 50% or more of the original car from SA, that it can still be called original.
Seems the only few things they're using is the glass, motor, tranny, rearend, etc...
All body panels/doors are being replaced except the top. All complete one piece floor pan, we know that the unibody is shot, along with the trunk area, drop-offs, etc,etc,...that's well over 50% of the original Shelby.
I know, I know, this has been discussed in-depth. But, what would be the difference putting all the glass, the COMPLETE drivetrain, radiator top tank, bottom tank, and MAYBE a useable (chuckle) piece of the trunk area and/or rockers, etc, etc.,,,, on another body and calling it original?
Parker himself keeps saying "Original service replacement fenders will being used because all FB's share the same, original doors from a donor FB, Service replacement deck lid, NOS complete floorpan, Parker even mentioned replacing the left shock tower, NOS this, NOS that, service replacement,etc, etc, etc.....
I have never understood any of that. If I had to guess, only a small % of the original car is being salvaged. I'm sure sheetmetal date codes play a big part in the equation, but finding a good donor car with dates the same??
I wouldn't want a Shelby that was 50-75% from donor and a bunch NOS service parts. Even 75% of the interior is being replaced.
Someone explain the "Difference".
Still trying to make sense of a severe basket case that was left out to ROT and try like Hell to bring it back with a Huge amount of other car parts.

This is 6S1523 as it is currently residing in the garage. I've been cleaning, scraping, and prepping for paint in the engine compartment and underneath the body. After it's reasonably sorted, it will be time to start angering the curmudgeons around here by using parts that did't come from 56 year old boxes.
If you're going to drive it the best part is the one that works IMHO.

It's the great debate - for me all that matters is that the body is the one that came from SJ to SA to the buyer. IMO that's the car and all of the history that goes with it; so If that's all original I don't care about a block number. I look at a block as a service part. There is another group that cares more about the numbers and not about the body, they look at the body as a service part.
6S2072. I know wrong wheels, from my '65, but I have five restored '66 10 spokes if I want to go back, just 20 lug nuts. Just love the look of the Cragers.

My car left SA and went to High Performance Motors. Before it was sold to the first owner, the car had the Berry Plastiglass spoilered deck lid and end caps, Thunderbird tail lights. An 8-Track with speakers hacked into the doors, and Dual Quads installed. So if that's how the car was first sold, is it wrong to make the car that way? Well, no. Can you argue that the car should be "stock" base spec with 10-spokes? Sure. There are technically TWO correct "original" versions of my car before it was ever purchased by the original owner. After it was traded in and sold a second time all bets are off, and 157,000 miles later, enough years and miles have passed under the chassis that "original as it left SA" is a very expensive proposition.
So what's wrong with bolting on some improved parts 55 years later? Not a damn thing. And anyone who wants to argue that is going to get told where they can put their opinions. You guys can be staunch on your beliefs that these cars should be a certain way, but I'm willing to bet most of you guys can't even claim your own bodies are in well respected "original factory condition", most of us have some wear and tear that will prevent us from being "good as new". Why are we holding every example of these cars to unrealistic standards when we can't apply the same standards to ourselves.
Some want Museum quality cars and many others want cars they can USE. I am in the USE category so mine isn't "day 1 original" , the "next owner" can undo my 47 + years of ownership.

There is not one answer to your question but I will try and explain. First of all the car has to look like new . How you get there is the challenge. The MCA and SAAC Mustang and Shelby concours venues have for many years considered "original " as the condition when the car was delivered to the first owner from the dealer . The first owner is typically considered the first private owner. Sometimes a request will be made to show the car as it was delivered to the dealer from the factory or "pre Delivery " condition with all of the stickers on the windshield ,plastic on the seats and steering wheel etc. Another example is for a prototype car that may be in one form early in it's life but in another form by the time it was sold to the first private owner. Requests to show those cars in other then the way it was delivered to the first owner are done within reason on a case by case basis with accompanying reasonable documentation. It is always a good idea to be friendly and polite when making those kinds of requests. Demanding and threatening behavior do not typically get the job done. ;) Reasonable documentation does not include here say by a previous owner, friend of a friend or even employee from the factory etc. Those have been proven unreliable in the past and so in fairness to all none like that are typically accepted. Sometimes thinking outside the box helps in proving a point of view. In the past if a accessory was added that didn't come on the car but it could have been bought over the counter at the Ford dealer back in the day then it was allowed . That was 20 years ago. This adding of possible options was highly abused to the point of being ridiculous . The requirements have slowly tightened up since then and fewer things are allowed . Typically if a out of the ordinary item is present then the burden of proof is on the entrant to show reasonable evidence that it was on the car when first delivered. MCA has a driven class that allows things like stainless steel brake lines and a more forgiving view of undercarriage condition to name a couple. That is what is expected as it relates to the window in time the car is to look like . It is best to seek out advice from the venue in question to be the most precise on what is expected for parts and build procedures to look like for a given class . There are some differences between class's of different venues. I hope this helps.
