Title: THE WHEEL - July 1965
Post by: SFM66H on August 08, 2018, 12:02:21 PM
This cover of THE WHEEL has a very nice photo of Dick Carter & Hayward Ford's 5019 on it that I've never seen before.

It also shows a pin striping detail on the hood that I wonder how many of us have ever known about:

And speaking of Hayward Ford, here's the advertisement they had in this issue. I believe they used a stock SAI photo of CSX2012:

That's another nice cover photo Kieth! I was not aware of the pinstripes on the hood peak either. You can barely see a hint of them in a few of the 1965 photos. It looks like they were gone by May '66.

I had not even noticed the small BP next to the number before.

In this dated photo at Castle Rock, Colo. we see Bob Holbert in CSX2127 leading Bob Bondurant in 2129 and Dave MacDonald in 2138:

Check out this "Sharp new decal" in the May 8, 1965 issue of Competition Press & Auto Week:

I like how the Cobra is wrapped around the leg! That very symbolically says it all...

In the article below this photo (which shows CSX2601 at the start of Sebring '65) are the interesting words of Ken Miles, about Shelby's plans for 1965:
