Title: 69 GT350 fuel filler splash shield placement
Post by: SChatman on November 04, 2020, 11:54:52 AM
How does the fuel filler splash shield fit?
Does it go between the fiberglass panel and the steel tail light panel? The shield would have been screwed on from the factory so was it taken off or was the steel panel cut out and the fiberglass put right on top of it with the splash sheild never coming off? Any pictures would help.
Someone gave me some information a while back but I can't find it!
Thanks

Believe if left attached during the cutting and installation of the taillight panel it would have been in the way and would affect the ability to seal the taillight panel to the body. Not something Ford would have wanted

An example from a restored car. The first unrestored example I have was a double digit (real early car) I have handy had it's reinstalled up side down  ::) May have others if I search through the pictures

Thanks Jeff, did you get the picture I sent you of my filter neck that I tinned? I still have to use the mag wheel cleaner to knock the shine down but I think it turned out well.

Sorry don't recall.  Glad to see it worked out well for you also. Not really difficult and if you screw up, easy to strip and redo. Thanks for sharing

Thanks for your help Jeff, do you know what nut and washer combination hold the rear license plate holder on?
I have the frame but somehow didn't put the original nuts with it when I packaged it up years ago.

I thought a serrated flange nut. I'll check tonight what is on my car which would be what I took off when I restored it. I'm sure if I'm wrong others will correct me. Gary

Don't recall for sure and could not find any pictures to help boost my memory at the moment - did look

Unfortunately the exploded views of the assemble do not show the detail

Flat washer then serrated flange nut is what I have seen. I assume the flat washer kepted the serrations in the flange nut from chipping the injected fiberglass of the tail panel.

I checked my Vert and I have both the washer and serrated nut. Here are 2 pics. Hard to photograph. Gary
