That would be a fun one to own.

There will be a nice feature on the cat in an upcoming At The Sign of the Cat (CCOA club magazine).

Looks to be a record price for a production Cougar.

Living up here in Canada I have been trying for years to find a good quality, period correct trunk mount ski rack to display on one of my convertibles. I even have my old 1970 skis and poles to mount on it, and the 69 cougar cj convertible to mount it on.
Rarer than some of the carburetors we search for.

Title: 428CJ Cougar Convertible- finally got my ski rack
Post by: Stillakid54 on June 17, 2022, 12:24:58 PM
This past winter, finally found a rack. Here it is, restored, on my 71 Torino, with my skis I used in 1971. Like cars, ski technology has come a long way.
I am sure the little sticker on the skis reads: DANGER, Never to be skied on!

9F94R549292 Dearborn built. I'll wager all 3 went down the line at the same time and got loaded on a plane right after they got a white glove inspection by the Ford PR guy who put the deal together. Generally they only get 2 cars. A hero and a spare for the rough stuff. Since the script called for beating one up they probably ordered 3.

Gotta call BS on this one: Prepared by Carroll Shelby, according to one published report, they were built with Ford's venerable 428 Cobra Jet engine with function Ram Air, along with an automatic transmission, steel wheels, red leather interior, and a black top.

Why?: This one was built on February 6, 1969, and according to paperwork, the convertible was legally registered in the United Kingdom exactly a week later.

Link says it went for $437 inc fees - not 480.

Actually two were ordered together and one was ordered months later by the movie production company. No idea why, speculation is that they needed one and had no operable ones.

Months later would indicate they needed to add/reshoot a scene and the property master had already gotten rid of the cars. Or they wanted one to drive to the previews and both were too bad shape or - the star/director/producer decided they wanted the production company to buy them one. Lots of times props get given away or peddled off to crew etc for a bargain price. That's why films cost 20+ million to shoot.

When they shot LeMans they bought several Heuer Monaco watches. They all got "distributed" at the end of the shoot. McQueen gave the one he wore during filming to his mechanic who sold it a couple years ago for 2 million+. https://www.motorsportmagazine.com/articles/auctions/steve-mcqueens-le-mans-heuer-monaco-watch-to-be-auctioned

I could watch the LeMans T70 pole lap Classic over-and-over-and-over.

But, put your ear buds in with full volume!!!
