Title: 67 GT500 valve spring pockets
Post by: shelbydoug on December 02, 2020, 09:03:33 AM
I messing with a non-stock camshaft and the springs required set up at 1.90".

As a result I'm looking at needing to cut the spring seats deeper. I can't find any references to a maximum safe cut for those spring seats?

Do any of you have those spec's available?

Offhand I don't like the thought of cutting them at all but that most likely is my paranoiac problem and not yours?

Anyone with any insight on the cut? Not the paranoia.

   Doug ,
Before I cut the head "I" would look to a different retainer or different valve lock. I have cut spring seats .050 as a last resort , but no more than that.

It would not be recommended to cut the spring seats of the cylinder heads any deeper than they are a from the O.E.; one may find it necessary to enlarge the diameter "some" for larger diameter springs and cups (and that's dangerous enough), but resist going down, locate proper components that allow fitment without such.

Also, establish for ones' self of the install height requirements, do not rely of the printed literature!          ;)

Thanks to both of you. You are thinking along the same lines as I.

New plan. Details: not formulated yet.  :D
