Title: 0100 Old And New Photos
Post by: 67411F--0100-ENG. on December 05, 2020, 12:53:25 PM
Hello Everyone,

The first photo is of 0100 with GT40 P/1047 and was taken by Car and Driver magazine in late November of 1966.  I acquired the photo in 2012.  For the past 8 years I have wanted to do a current day version of this photo with GT40 P/1015.  On October 29, 2020 we were finally able to make it happen at the Shelby American Collection.  Thanks to Kieth Champine who did some excellent "clean up" work on the photo for me.

Thanks,
Eric

So does the current plaid skirt add or subtract from the photo? ;D

It looks like you even went to the trouble of lining up the Magstars and the knock off .......

I love recreations like this one.  Eric, was it easy to line up all the details in this picture, or did you rely on a bit of photoshopping to create this?

Hello Everyone,

Some info on the new photo.  First, the photo I posted was taken with my little Canon PowerShot camera, so nothing fancy.  A friend of my was there and took photos with his professional grade camera equipment, but I do not have his photos yet.  The young lady in the photo is another friend's step-daughter.  I had sent Jonathan (her step-dad) a copy of the original photo to review.  I said to see if she and her Mom might have some clothes to wear that are "close" to the original photo, but not to go searching for and buying new clothes.  The clothes she wore were things they already had, and I thought they were just fine.  It was her first attempt at "modeling" and she is still in high school.  She was absolutely thrilled with the experience of being photographed with a couple of very significant cars and wants to have one of the photos to use in her high school yearbook.
I had asked Steve Volk, President of the Shelby American Collection, about doing the photos a couple of weeks before Jason Billups brought the car back to Colorado from his shop in Oklahoma.  Steve said we could do the photos if the weather was nice enough to bring P/1015 outside; and fortunately the weather cooperated.  We took alot of photos, some from ground level and some from the back of a 4x4 Ford truck.  It was pretty great to finally get to do the "recreation".
Kieth Champine did a little "photoshop" magic to the photo I posted.  He removed a manhole cover from the foreground, and some curbing, sidewalk, and grass from the upper right background.  The cars were in the shade, so he removed some of the shadow from the photo so the color of the cars would show better.  He also removed a decal from the driver's side fender of P/1015 that doesn't look "period correct".  Yes, we should have moved the cars a little bit to eliminate the manhole cover, but we were running out of daylight.
Everyone that was there enjoyed the experience and thought it was pretty cool to be "recreating" the photo.  I think it turned out great!!!

Thanks,
Eric

Hello Everyone,

Here is another photo of 0100 that was taken back in October outside of the Shelby American Collection.  Kieth Champine did some editing to "clean up" the photo for me.  He really does nice work.  I think the car looks great in this photo.

Thanks,
Eric

Looks great Eric. Red is a great color for a Shelby. Heck for any Mustang. Any pics of your car with Brian's and Little Red? Gary

Hello Gary,

Thanks.  Yes, I have my own photos of 0100, 0131, and 0139 together.  The "official" photo-journalist has threatened me with legal action if I share them.  So, I will not be sharing my photos, but here is a teaser.  I hope that he is able to find a buyer/publisher for his story and his photos of the reunion sometime soon.  This was an historic event and it's a shame that Shelby enthusiasts have not been able to read about it yet.

Thanks,
Eric

To whomever the "official photog" is:  Jeez, man, let the owner have access to the photos.  I've done that hundreds of times in my career.

My rules for the owners of the cars I've photographed were:

You can make enlargements for own use, no prob.

You can put them in your car club materials, no prob.

You can use them for your own car-for-sale ad in something like Hemmings, no prob.

They are NOT to be published in a book or other magazine, or used in a TV show.

The web is kind of a grey area, but I wouldn't complain if the owner posted a few, with a proper photo credit.

A bunch of my TV and print stuff is out there, and it actually makes me smile that people liked it enough to post, save, and/or reference.

I have never been much of a stickler about copyrights, unless the car guy is an A-Hole.

Or if some company has pirated my work and is using it for their gain.

Car looks great, Eric. Me and a young lady who  is interested in Shelbys are going to the museum soon, so will be able to see it again I saw it years ago at a car show at the mall in Longmont. I think I still have a pic  of it. Ron

Hello Ron,

Thanks.  I plan on going over to the museum again around the middle of March.  Maybe we could meet there?  Let me know.

Hello Everyone,

Here are a couple of higher resolution versions of the recreated photo in color and B&W.  This photo was taken by a friend of mine who was using a much nicer camera than I was that day.  Kieth Champine did some superb "cleanup" work on the photo for me.

Thanks,
Eric

No, that's the Prototype car, it was to be destroyed but wasn't, sometimes referred to as "V738-2''. Long story that has been documented in an issue of The Shelby American.
