I was going to order a battery for my car and was asked two questions that I need some help with. Because it is a Shelby, they need to know if it was a series 24 or 27. They also asked if the battery should be painted or not. My car is a 6/13/69 build. What is the real story on this and suggestions as to what to order.

27F. you mean the RED graphics on top(AUTOLITE?). I just bought a group 27 Interstates battery at Costco for my 69 SCJ Mach1. Flat on top if I ever want to add a topper(if they make one). Did you get your side shield also?
Yes to the red graphics. And I do have the side shield (and a topper - but prefer to have the complete original style battery now that they are reproducing them again). Thank you

The 69/70 GT500 came standard with a 27 F not the 24 F . I am not aware of a battery topper made for the 27 F only the 24 so be careful in your ordering.
The topper I have CAME with the car. And were the batteries painted?

But as I and Bob mentioned 27F only on the battery and Bob says never a 27F topper. Did you have a 24F battery with a 24F topper in it?

Is your topper for a 24 or a 27 F battery? Just trying to confirm that you know the difference in size given I am not aware of a 27 F topper ever being made. If a 24f then that begs the question what battery tray do you have in your car, a 24 or a 27 .One tray is larger then the other . Many rusty 27 trays have been changed out to 24 trays given the 27 tray was not available for decades until recent years.

I was thinking the same thing on the battery tray. I believe the front apron was redesigned in 69 in the front for the larger battery tray as a 27 tray will not fit a 68.

I really appreciate the commentary, but since the topper is irrelevant to me, my BIG question is, should the battery be painted or not on this car?

I guess after sharing a pic of a reproduction group 27 battery I am confused by your question. Does the pic answer your question? The battery is molded in black and the lettering is red. Whether the tag on the battery(sticker) is a 100 percent correct that is a question for Bob or Jeff. My friend just bought a used group 29 Battery for his Boss 429 and it is painted red "Autolite" on top. Bill Upton usually only sells top quality reproduction parts. His has the side lettering painted silver while others I see it isn't it appears.
Painted battery? I've been around Fords since the late 1970's, even worked in college in a auto parts house. I've never heard of a factory "painted" battery. Or any "painted" battery. Not to say someone didn't decide to color match his battery to his car and did so with a Rattle Can!

What the individual was asking is if the "Autolite Sta-ful" on top of the battery should be painted (red) or black (case color).

Lettering on top and maybe on the sides. Bill Upton's battery which I posted a pic link is RED painted on the top and silver on the sides. My friend's original B9 Battery he just bought had the red on the top. Since the batteries are molded in black paint would be used to letter. A google search looking for Tbred blue 69 Mach1 will show this. I tried uploading a 76K pic but the file uploader is full. Gary
