On the prop rod RETAINER that is mounted on the trunk frame, what color should that be? Body color, charcoal gray, or ?????
here are some from supposed original cars I have on my work file(I'll search for more). I always thought a natural finish with possibly a phosphate?

Looks like the bottom two are from 70 Mustangs
The finish and retainers differed between plants but since we're "talking" Shelbys it makes it easier
The bracket was phosphate and oil like the arm was/ retained by two zinc dichromate screws with the wide bases/shoulder as shown in the unrestored

They are as those are the only pics I could find on my CPU I was using at the time. Are you saying the trap door rods varied between 69 and 70 or plants? I never noticed a difference and all the ones I have owned(probably all Dearborn cars as I lived a few miles from the plant) were usually light rusty as in the phosphate was worn off over time. I put a "few" FDRSs in Mustangs over the years in my youth. For the sake of clarity(brackets being in the pics) I'll delete my 70 pics. Thanks Jeff for providing some more pics. BTW the pic I left came from a black plate San Jose car.
Just wanted to keep this is an apple for apple comparison. So easy to not keep the narrow focus and include details from other plants, and years that can have differences so that we can provide the best information and recommendations. Didn't state that the trap door rods were different Hardware related to all the parts can be different and as you have shown the finish on the bracket that attaches to the trunk hinge support is different likely due to using a different supplier on San Jose cars.

Thanks Jeff, fully understand.
