When Titus was running the Firebird he was pitted next to SA. He rented a full size Mustang and parked it as close as he could to the SA cars. Shelby came by and said he appreciated the joke but could he please move the car.
I could never figure out why Saleen printed a poster with the race car and the street car appearing as a reflection under it. If you fold it in half and hold it up to the light the windshield angle fender height and several other things pop out. Saleen also hired one of the crew from the factory Camaro team to find out their cheats. Biggest one was the dash was double layer and held an extra 6 gallons at the start of the race. They fired the guy before he learned any of the Saleen "mods".

That was a great era of auto racing.  Now it's so expensive and heavily regulated, you just don't get those tricky but creative fixes like before.

When they went to the tube frame cars it ruined TA. It got way too expensive. When SCCA did the showroom stock thing in the 80s it was like the old factory TA racing was back. After the second year they broke the Corvette out into it's own series because the factory "prepped" Mustangs and Camaros had better lap times - by several seconds.
