I presume that they are just 390 GT parts but I just don't know for sure. Just looking for some help here, not to argue. Thanks.
If memory serves, early Cougar GTEs (as well as 135 Mustangs) used C8AE-J heads. Later ones used C8OE-N heads. Both drilled for 14 bolt 390 style exhaust manifolds. C7AE-F P.I. intake was used. Same as 68 GT500 & 135 Mustangs.

Note that the same head was used on the so called "135 series" 428CJ Mustangs built in December 1967. The same head was also used on the first 428CJ Cougar GT-E built in November 1967.
The 427 and early 428CJ heads were drilled with 14 holes on the exhaust side. About mid February 1968 the J heads were replaced in production with the new C80E 6090-N casting. It continued to be drilled and tapped with the 14 bolt pattern on the exhaust side. C8AE 6090-J casting and the C80E 6090-N casting are identical other than the -N head has reinforcement on the water passages around the exhaust valves.

You would be very wrong except the exhaust manifold part.
Intake and exhaust ports on C8AE 6090-J heads:
This is the engine assembly that went in one of my former GT-E's. Intake manifold and heads are originals. In this particular case I used a set of 428CJ exhaust manifolds which required plugging two of the bolt holes and drilling and tapping the rear upper bolt hole.
Rocker assembly consisted of adjustable factory rocker arms with HD shafts and stands from Doug's.
Original exhaust manifolds from a 427GT-E. Through the stock 2" exhaust system they make little difference. The 428CJ version uses a larger 2 1/4" exhaust system which will make a difference.
Most 427 GT-E's used a thermally controlled exhaust valve on the passenger side manifold. This one was made in March 1968 so it got a plain spacer in place of the valve.
