I know they are not the norm, but notice the tach bracket screws, exactly like the ones I believe are original on my 66...

Given the condition of the rest of the car does anyone else think the engine is just too clean?

In regards to your observation ,all aspects visible on the engine have been messed with in a apparent effort to improve or personalize for what ever reason. I don't think they are trying to imply that the car is some kind of untouched original time capsule. I my be naive in that regard but just how I perceive it. In the copy it mentions the car was wrecked and someone had started to repair and restore it.

I saw another version of this same article posted today as well. Both seemed to include the authors opinions about the car and not anything from the owner (including nothing about his/her claims about the originality). Unless the author has direct quotes from the "little old lady" they probably shouldn't have come up with theories on damage etc that may stick with the cars history. The actual owner may not care about its originality and its just happy to find one in any condition- cool find. I'm always curious how much people get these types of finds for before flipping begins.

Agree the Tach is most likely not original, probably a replacement for a failed original. Screws are very similar to carpet screws but I believe carpet screws are quite a bit shorter.

What makes you think the tack is not original?  I thought there were two styles used on 66 cars.  One with the cobra logo on the bottom (66 year built cars) and one with the cobra logo on top (early carry over, late 65 cars).  Is that not correct?  Thanks,

That is a whole topic in itself.  Probably a different thread.  We talked about it thoroughly on the old forum, not sure if there is a current thread about it on the new forum or not.  Needle thickness, chrome vs black crinkle, mounting bracket, wiring....  lots of little details.
