Title: Prototype 1967 VIN Plates
Post by: BGlover67 on November 24, 2018, 05:43:11 PM
I was looking through an older Hemmings article about John Atzbach's indescribable Shelby collection:

https://www.hemmings.com/magazine/mus/2015/02/Shelby-Nirvana/3746831.html

In the article he mentions acquiring some items from ex-Shelby American employee and well known SAAC member Chuck Cantwell.  Included are some prototype VIN plates, including plates for cars 001 and 002 in 1967.  I found it very interesting that they were initially considering following the 5S, 6S, 7S designation.  It's also curious that they would have had to have two different plates, one for a GT 350 and one for a GT 500.  That is some cool stuff!

Nice find Brian!

That article is a few years old, I may have even looked at it trying to find photos of 67-0002.
I'm glad they went with the full description version in the VIN. We can see so much info that way vs those prototype VIN plates.

John bought 0002 a few years ago and still has it in his collection.
