Just wondering. I started thinking about the breakdown of 1966 Shelby production. I know thinking too much about these things can be dangerous but what else is a guy to do while he's on a road trip to Lubbock Texas. From what I can tell there were around 1370 non-Hertz GT 350s built in 1966. I know 253 of those were the carryover cars which leaves about 1117 1966 cars produced. Is it documented how many of those remaining 1966 GT 350s were white? Is it also known the breakdown between automatic transmission and four-speed transmission cars?

I believe all this info is in the SAAC Registry. Lots of info on color and such.

The number I am seeing in the registry is 999 production cars and two prototypes, making 1001 Hertz cars. The numbers from above do add up to this value. One of the prototypes is in the 252 batch.

Please correct me if I'm reading this wrong. Looks like there were around 1122 non-hertz, non-carryover 66 Shelby's built. My car, 281 was definitely in that first batch of those 6R09K cars delivered from San Jose. It seems a lot of the non-carryover early 66 cars were automatics originally. Is there anyway of knowing how many of the non-Hertz, non-carry over cars had automatic transmissions as opposed to four speeds?

When you review the registry you will find many cars that don't show what kind of transmission they have.

Hi Karl,
Your best attempt to establishing how many automatic versus standard transmission cars is to just go through the registry. From there you might assume of the total cars with tranny info, proportion those with automatic and those with standard. From there estimate totals. It is mostly just a good guess. Now on the Hertz Models, I believe automatic/standard are documented very well, so you can leave these cars out of your count. I would not assume the ratios in the H-model are good for the full spec 6R09K S-Model cars. (I prefer to call this group of cars by what they are, not by what they are not.) Sounds like it is time for you to buy a registry. As a side note, I have heard from other hobbyist say there were a lot of automatic cars in the early 66 (6R09K) production. I have not confirmed using the registry.

Hi Karl,
The registry actually includes a lot of transmission type information in the pages 280 to 336. I surveyed cars 6S253 to 602 (350 units) and found 44.9% were automatics and 55.1% four speed. However, a smaller samplings show big swings on percentages. I have broken down the survey groups into 50 unit blocks. See the below image for that survey. If someone wants to help with other groupings beyond 6S602, I can email you an EXCEL file for you to continue populating and then I can reduce the data.
The same survey could be done for color too, if someone wants to take on and has some free time.

Here is another way to slice the data. It shows the mix of automatics and four speeds by SAI VIN. There are some large blocks where the cars were all one tranny type. Then other areas where there was a mix back and fourth, i.e. 5 automatic, four four speed, five automatics, two four speed, etc.
You can see the very first set of 6R09K's after 252 the length of the bar is 36 automatics in a row. From 6S532 to 6S590 there are 58 four speed cars with one automatic at 6S576.
