Title: Hawk Pad thickness. Others have issues?
Post by: 1967 eight barrel on January 02, 2019, 07:01:03 AM
I went to install Hawk pads and could not get the pad in the front side of the caliper. If so, is there a safe way to remove a 32" of an inch or so? I did notice there was an noise insulator on them.

I would take a flat plate (steel, marble or glass), lay down some 100 grit and sand away the difference on the friction surface. You are '"surface plating" the pads. Use a caliper to measure thickness as you go.

I've had issues with race pads and that was my cure.

Bill,
I had considered a flat surface of that nature, but was concerned about seating correctly. I feel comfortable about using the method now. Thanks, Bill.
