Title: IMSA Long Beach results for the NFGT
Post by: Richstang on April 14, 2019, 01:07:50 PM
I almost missed this one yesterday, but at least caught the last few minutes.
Once again luck was not on the Ford GT drivers side.
A mistake hitting the pit speed button apparently caused the no66 of Mueller / Bourdais to lose the lead to a Porsche with 45 minutes left.
That was followed by a last lap fuel issue for the no66 now running in second (not enough fuel, I'll get back to that later)
The no66 lost power, was hit in the rear by a Corvette while fighting for position, and put in the wall. It ended up scoring 4th in class
The no67 of Briscoe / Westbrook finished 6th in class.
Not a good day.

Back at Sebring the Ford GT's were detuned with less boost and reduced fuel capacity by 1 liter. No changes were done to the Corvette
Seems that might have made the difference on a podium finish.

Next up Mid-Ohio, May 2-5th.

When you can't beat em', have the rules changed.   :-\

Are the Fords giving away some bottom end torque with the EcoBoost? Seems like they just
don't have the "grunt" coming off those tight turns.

Reduced power and the new, for this year, balance of power (BOP) has the FGT struggling.

I imagine there is an added weight penalty on them too.
Seems like a lot of bad luck this year hasn't helped.
