Title: Help with some Cobra history
Post by: BGlover67 on October 04, 2019, 09:22:20 AM
I'm making up some trivia questions for our SAAC Carolina's Fall meet this weekend.  Can anyone elaborate on Carol Connors' Cobra, the writer of 'Hey Little Cobra'?

In this video clip, CS himself says she came into SA and wanted to buy a Cobra, but being only 17, he wouldn't sell it to her without permission from her mom.  He said she had the money from writing and performing the hit song 'To know him is to love him' along with Phil Spectator (I wonder how he's doing these days?)

He says she wrote the song 'Hey Little Cobra' a few months later, but the rumor I have always heard was that Shelby gave her a car after she went to no. 1 with the song.  This seems to be be contradicted in that video interview. Does anyone know the truth here?  Were there two cobras involved, she wrecked her first one?  Was it CSX2067?   ???

You can post it here.  Anyone who goes on the forum, deserves a head's up (or probably already knows it)  Thanks!

I think Connors' story is likely to be less embellished than Shelby's. She did get CSX 2067 as her first Cobra, and later owned CSX 2544 as well. (And the man you refer to is Phil Spector, not "Spectator.")

IIRC Carol said she had three altogether with 2544 being the last one she owned. I was told that by the current owner of 2544 which is still up for sale.

CS giving away a car is right up there with Santa or the Easter Bunny bringing you one.
