Title: How do you decode the vin on a block, since it does not have the full vin?
Post by: Keith Litteken on November 06, 2019, 06:44:31 PM
The 4 bolt main 429 CJ/SCJ blocks I have are stamped with these vin #  1Z580646 and 1G268468 on them.

Thanks,
Keith

Maybe just stating the obvious but here we go.
1971 block

646 and 468 last 3 digits of VIN

Pretty straight forward. For this engine and period you have

Year - Assembly plant (of the vehicle) - Sequential VIN

1G268468  = 1971- Chicago Il - Sequential VIN which also will identify model, body type and manufacturer (Ford, Lincoln, Mercury)

1Z580646 =  1971 -  St Louis Mo  - Sequential VIN which also will identify model, body type and manufacturer (Ford, Lincoln, Mercury)

   Keith ,
Because of the assembly plants noted the cars were Torinos or Cyclones.
