T10M  aluminum were prevalent  to approx  serial number 1100  after that they were cast iron boxes

And I believe the cast iron T10M-1's had not external means to identify them as the close ration high nickel gear tranny.  They look identical to the standard cast iron T10H-1 for Mustang.

Here is a link to a tranny that sort of fits the ticket, but I don't think so.  It seams the assembly date code for a cast iron high nickel T10M-1 is too early plus it has a VIN stamp.  I am betting it is a recreation.

    Cory,
      This seller is delusional!
#1  NO big block SAI  "production" Mustang or Cobra used a T10 , Toploader ONLY.
#2  The vin is NOT a Mustang vin and it is NOT in the place where vins were commonly stamped on NON SAI produced vehicles
#3 NO big block Mustang ever used  T-10
#4 "Sebring" close ratio gears were never made with a "short" big block input shaft. "Regular" close ratio sets were and were used in Galaxie big blocks ( with the short input.
This trans has been altered with a Mustang output shaft and tail housing.
#5 VINs were never put on T-10s in SAI built cars . Toploaders ('67 up) yes
   BUYER BEWARE !!!!

Cast iron T10s in GT350s werent T10M   that designation was limited to the alloy boxes.   they used the T10 H castings  Ive rebuilt many of these and about half of the ones that supposedly came from a GT350 were actual close ratio

Hi Randy,

I didn't think things were adding up right.  Thanks for the clarifications.  So is this a "Frankenstein" tranny and fits nothing?  Any would be buyer will certainly be very disappointed.

Thanks

Does anyone know how T10s were identified on the assembly line? They don't have tags or VINS so how did a line worker know they were selecting a close  ratio sebring high nickle trans versus C or A code wide ratio T 10

   Dave,
When the DSO (Domestic Special Order) cars came down the line the "DSO transmissions" were bolted to the engine assembly already to be installed as a single unit. Most don't realize that the assembly line wasn't like an average garage . There wasn't enough time . I wasn't like there were transmissions "laying around". Take a look at some of the assembly line videos available on youtube  to see how things were done . Most ''stations" had less than 5 minutes to accomplish their specific operation. There were various "pre assembly areas" where sub assemblies were put together before going to the actual line. All built to a specific "build sheet" , NO variation allowed.

Hi Randy,

IIRC, the cast iron T10M-1's were also not covered in the Ford MPC nor any T10 in the Ford Maintenance manuals.  Any reason why?

I will have to check the MPC if the aluminum version is in the Ford MPC, but I will bet not.

Thanks

So in the pre assembly area they were bolting to the hipo 289s either top loaders for non shelby K cars or close ratio T10s to shelby bound K cars. It's always been odd to me that every other transmission has an ID tag and these dont. When they got crates of them from Borg Warner how were they identified so they didn't get attached to a C or A code motor in the sub assembly area? Would also seem to have been a problem at the dealership for repair or replacement issues

Seems like a weird VIN choice to stamp on it, codes for a 65 Comet 289 4V...

Just for my own clarification, there was a RPO BW T10(H??) used in 65 & 66, just std iron case and gear ratios.
This is the only BW 4sp listed in the MPC for Galaxy, Fairlane, Mustang & Falcon.

Did all GT350 T10's come with high nickel Sebring gear sets?

thank you

I didn't work at the assembly plant but have had conversations with some that were there. Issues like you are imagining wouldn't happen because specific paper orders or "materials requests" spelled out all of the components to be used. Tags ( often green) were wired onto various parts that were special. This included the "non standard " differential assembly , Export brace, Koni shocks. I can't answer how they were "stocked" prior to assembly but it worked. I'm sure Quality Control inspection was carefully done because of the special order nature of these cars in general.
Maybe Jeff will have additional insight on the subject . He too has spoken with former San Jose line employees.

     Jim ,
"Most of the NON SAI Mustang T-10s were wide ratio and they were used through '66. "Some" Kcode  Mustangs and Fairlanes had the close ratio T-10s. ALL SAI destined T-10s had the "Sebring" gears which had different 2nd and 3rd gear ratios only. 1st was still 2.36 like a "regular" close ratio T-10. Ford Service Manuals were written for Ford produced Mustangs , not SAI variants. Yes the T-10M is noted in the MPC with GT350 noted and S1MS part numbers. They were NOT in early MPCs only later versions after Ford "assumed" SAI manufacturing. The many period invoices to Ford dealers "in the day" From SAI for GT350 specific parts.
