Certainly not as much as in 1966.
This is a scan of a small counter top brochure that I have. I've posted it in the past and my scan has shown up all over the place, including books and magazine articles.
Notice the 10 spokes on the Shelby.
Anybody have any other vintage Shelby/Hertz stuff from 1968?

Here is an ad that ran on the back cover of the Mid-Ohio Trans-Am race program.
It is dated June 7-8, 1969, which seems kind of late for them to be running an ad the features a 1968 Shelby.

It looks like a tilt-away steering wheel. Did all the Hertz Shelbys have them?

The "tilt-pop" was part of the package the '68 Hertz cars were normally equipped with.
I'm not sure if even at this point it can be said with 100% certainty that "they all" had it but the thought is that yes, they are supposed to have it.
The reason that I say that is even Kevin Marti has noticed that Ford official records are not always 100% accurate.
I believe all Hertz cars were built after "tilt" became a "mandatory" option. The exception being the Hertz convertible prototype

Maybe so or maybe depicted in a state that didn't require front plates yet.
Questionable front plate placement, even if it is just for a photo.
In the real world, it would do wonders to increase the "Damn it's overheating again" and the "What the hell is that flapping noise" conversations.
Real olden days: Front license plate bracket came in the trunk. A. Didn't want to drill holes in the car. B. Front plate wasn't "cool" but a legal necessity in some states. This placement easy on and off in the real world. :)
That's a New Jersey manufacturer's plate probably from the Ford New York district office in Teterboro, NJ. Unfortunately the state still requires a front plate and not having one has always been an easy target for a ticket.
Not from 1968, but close! Playing cards still in the original cellophane wrapper. They're from 1969.

I have not seen those - wish they had the Cougar Eliminator on them.
The Eliminators were included in the Hertz Sports Car Club for '69. They were all automatics with a power sun roof.
Only vintage Cougar with a sunroof and no vinyl top. Guess ASC had to be extra careful with those installations, as they couldn't hide any sloppy work with a vinyl top.

Ok, this just about blows my wad so far as '68 Hertz/Shelby/Cougar stuff goes.
As I've said, I'm hoping there might be more out there - so please share if you have some.
Below are copies of vintage paperwork where Hertz first expressed an interest in having a high end Shelby-like Cougar to add to it's Sports Car Cub rental program.
You'll notice the mention of Shelby American and the XR-7S Cougar.
Some of you will be familiar with that show car - it has been speculated that the "S" stood for Shelby. Henry Ford II had and XR-7S built for himself that still exists and made an appearance at a SAAC convention in the '80s.
For some reason, the XR-7S was more-or-less split off into two production Cougars; the GT-E (427 and then 428 CJ powered and built in-house) and the XR7-G (assigned to Shelby Automotive and put together at A.O. Smith).

Here's another version of the ad Phillip posted earlier. The only difference being it's missing the blue sky with clouds. It was on the back of a United Airlines Jetarama Theater program which was published weekly. The advertised movie, "Six Will Get You Eggroll", was released August 7, 1968.

I was not aware of that version - I will be on the lookout for it but I bet it will be tough to find.
I do have this vintage Cougar racing jacket with a Hertz Sports Car Club patch.
This did not come from my father-in-laws stash (I got in in a trade with John Barnes) so I can't speak to it being an authentic Hertz produced item.
Someone could have put the Sports Car Club patch on a Cougar jacket, but that would be an unusual thing for the casual car enthusiast to do.
Since Hertz did rent XR7-Gs and Eliminators under the Sports Car Club program I would guess there is a good chance this came from Hertz.
