Just got my door panels from Gene Painter and look great.   His son gave me fair warning it would take a couple months.  Worth the wait.  So for now,  Gene (or Gene & Son) is still restoring door panels.

I just sent a pair to Gene Painter.  Spoke to his son who said itd likely take 6-8 weeks.  Im in no hurry so I boxed them up in a bicycle box (Painters suggestion) along with NOS weatherstrips and Drake pull cups.  The son (whose name escapes me) said they could fill in the speaker cut outs that my panels originally did not have.  Ive heard good thing so fingers crossed.

Will be interesting to watch the C8 go through puberty over next couple years.  Id still take the snake though.

1969-1970 Shelby GT350/500 / Door pull cups
« on: November 23, 2019, 06:59:45 PM »
What are opinions of repop door pull cups vs original ?  Both mine are busted at the typical weak spot. Wonder if repops might be equal or better than original (durability wise).  If not Ill chase down some originals.   >edit> I now understand the difference length between 69 and 70 pull cups.

Im soon sending door panels to Gene Painter and want to send a good set of pulls.  So looking for advice.

Thanks
Adrian

Follow up:  Big thanks for the tips.  I was able to remove rear glass by myself using the previously mentioned extention chord trick and upward pressure spread across finger tips of both hands.  Pressed out top first then slid forward.   Followed by 3 hours of cleaning and flossing the gasket.

In the two scenarios discussed above,  will the seal be coming out with the glass.  Or to ask another way... is the seal lip on the interior side being manipulated so that the rubber seal and glass are removed together.

Thanks for these suggestions.

Anyone have tips/method/suggestion for way to remove rear fastback glass without damaging the rubber window seal?   If possible, id like to save/reuse the original rubber seal.

Looking at it,  wondering if better to pull glass out of seal (somehow) or perhaps possible to pull glass and seal together.

Thanks
Adrian Jacobs

No prob.  With cutout, the valence is flimsy in the middle so I have mine zip tied to a section of PVC to prevent kinking it while off car.

My rear valence is on my work bench so I took a few measurements.  Certain this is the original valence. Curved shaped doesnt lend itself to a simple A x B dimension so Ill give some reference dimensions.

Opening is centered in middle. The vertical cuts are 11 1/2 apart (ie 5.75 from centerline of valence).

The lower horizontal cut line is 2 1/4 above the lower edge of the valence.

The upper cut line is 1 below upper edge of the valence.  Upper cut line is also along same line as the subtle crease that runs horizontally 1 below upper edge of valence.

Lower 2 corners are crisp 90 degree angles while upper 2 corners are slightly radiused (approx 1/4 radius)

The result is an opening with flat plane measurement of  11 1/2 x 4 7/8 when measured using a ruler or tape.

Im not sure what tool was used to make the cut but appears it wasnt snips.  I can see evidence of cutting tool about 1/16 wide so maybe a saw ????   But saw couldnt have created the radius in upper corners.

The photo is  illusion making the vertical cuts look curved but they are straight.

I'm guessing one of them is a support bracket that connects lower dash to firewall.   If so, it mounts to the lower dash just inboard of glove box and extends upward slightly to the firewall.   I have a photo taken during disassembly of my 70 A/C car.

During disassembly i tried to leave a breadcrumb trail to lead me out of the woods when time came to re-assemble.  But photos are large files and cumbersome.  If anyone would like, I can send email photos that also include notes added to the photos as I disassembled.  Just PM me.
