SAAC Forum Discussion Area / Re:68 AMFM Stereo Radio
« on: March 17, 2024, 07:53:18 PM »
Had the opportunity to search for the 68 AM/FM stereo radio and parts from a Metechun built 68 Mustang J Code 4psd convertible.  Having never seen this option before and being one of the rarer 68 Mustangs options (only 4701 installed out of 300+k cars), thought I would share pictures of the radio, harness (unfortunately cut at the speakers) and door speaker location.  From the door picture I would assume that when ordering the AM/FM option Ford used the deluxe door with courtesy light cutout (taped over), separately cut the oblong hole for the speaker and installed the deluxe door grilles.

Might find this "how-to" of interest:

Harris Speedster,

Here is the C5AE-B pulley that I used on a 68 small block with A/C and maybe the "same or at least similar" to C8OE-6312-B, never compared them dimensionally.  If anyone wants it for FREE just PM me before it hits the recycle bin.

Saw one here at West Coast Cougar Classic:

https://secure.cougarpartscatalog.com/c8oz-6a6312-b.html

which states "Ford part number C8OZ-6A6312-B. Application 289 and 302 engines with air conditioning and power steering optional. Ford casting number C8OE-6312-B. Triple sheave 68 crank pulley. While this pulley is identified as the available pulley over the Ford counter for this application, the C5AE-B pulley is what was installed on 1968 Cougars and Mustangs from the factory."

I have a C5AE-B pulley in my junk pile if you want it for free, just PM me.

Always willing to help fellow GT350 vert owner, Joe

Believe the photographer was Robert H. "Bob" Jackson.

Pete, Bob and TransamEd,

Thanks for the feedback.  Probably have some follow-up questions about the AMFM option once I find the box with the original AMFM radio and speaker.

How to interpret Marti Report Statistics of this 68 Metuchen built J Code 4spd convertible:

Over 300K 68 Mustangs were built, do these statistics relate to the total cars produced? (775 AM/FM radios would be a rare option then)

Also, always thought the only "Stereo" system in 68 was for the 8Track radio? (report misstates radio as stereo?)

Were there any 68 Shelbys delivered with an AM/FM (mono or stereo) radio?

Finally above freezing today but still not a Shelby day but maybe a minor addition like this would do the trick to deal with remaining snow?

In period A.O. Smith ad that promotes different aspects of their business.

This was a two page spread that was in Fortune Magazine and attached is the left page.

FWIW I have a copy of the 1968 A.O. Smith Annual Report and there is maybe a sentence or two mentioning the Shelby contract.

Hey CoralSnake,

Looks like the above Fortune Magazine two page is circa 68(?) and the pictured green fastback has ten spokes on it.

Some type of promo picture and not a production car?

Just arrived in South Jersey, plastic cover failed to protect edges unfortunately.

Look forward to reading, thanks SAAC

Here's an old set of trunk taillight panels, assume they could be original
