Perhaps if the Editor is watching, he can comment. Rick?

I think he's trying to determine if anyone knows which exact set of plates are being used here.

Any idea on the CSX on the Bonneville Cobra ? looked in my registry, no luck under that name.

It is definitely in the registry and under that name. Look up CSX 3339, please.

Up For Auction / Re: 67 K code Eleanor?

All this speculation and negativity is depressing. Stop it. Here's a good idea - to make everyone happy and put a smile on their faces, let's round up all the K-code fastbacks we can find and make them into Eleanors. Wow! We'll increase the value of those former junkers exponentially, improve the gate at every local car show they attend, receive commendations from the government for beautifying the neighborhoods they visit, and - let's face it - put a really warm feeling into literally every car lover's heart. What the hell are we waiting for? LET'S GO!

The venue looks like Charlotte, NC, which would likely have been the 1987 convention. I am thinking the car is CSX 3197 and the owner at the time was Jack Browning of Roanoke, VA.

Replicas and Tribute / Re: Cobra CSXX497 identification

Regrettably, the various concerns that have reproduced these tags make finding cars with fictional VINs a regular occurrence. Way too many people, many of whom are in Europe, write to the Cobra Registrar with great excitement to reveal the "lost" car they have just managed to unearth, and which - not coincidentally - they have just gotten a deal on that is practically too good to be true. I derive no pleasure in patiently reviewing the old adage that any deal that seems too good to be true almost always is. And inevitably, the car they have just acquired is a piece of fiction.

I have encountered the same confusion, but fortunately not in as drastic a situation as the one you describe. How could anyone confuse a hood with a bonnet, a trunk with a boot, or a top with a hood? It boggles the mind.

OK. Let's not even get started on what's in the boot.

Dan, why would anyone paint their wife's hat blue?   :D

While we're on the subject of blue...The bulk of blue small block Cobras were painted what AC Cars called "Bright Blue." Over the years, this has come to be seen as synonymous with Ford Guardsman Blue. But they were different colors. The AC color is technically known as "AC Jewelesence 19028-N Bright Blue." So, if you want your Bright Blue 289 to be fully correct...

Although the registry indicates 2125 was painted Bright Blue, it is incorrect, due to an inability to differentiate between blues at the time. We know now that 3 cars were painted in a color that AC Cars labeled "Blue Metaline." And this was at the same time they were using "Princess Blue," a very similar but different color.

Only three Cobras ever came from the AC factory in that great "Blue Metaline" color - 2125, 2132, and 2133. And for inexplicable reasons, each was repainted a different color a few years down the road. Tragic. I'm glad this one was repainted back to the original color they found when stripping it.
