1965 GT350/R-Model / Spare Tire Cover

Several months ago there was an indication that someone may make a short run of accurate reproduction spare tire covers for 1965 GT350s.  Is there any update on the status of that effort with respect to who, when, and for how much?

Bob Gaines -

I tried posting photos on the website, but I was unsuccessful.  I sent you a separate PM with photos.  Thanks for the response that, in your opinion, it is likely an original sand cast lid.

My sand cast lid has the straight leg "R" and a 3/16" space between the base of that leg and the base of the "A".

Bob Gaines -

The  lettering on my lid matches your image.  When I enlarge your lid image, it looks like there is a very faint rectangular border around the lettering.  Is that true for all original sand cast lids?  When I run a finger along the perimeter of the lettering on my lid, it feels as if the metal is very slightly raised, but there is no distinct rectangular border.

Bob Gaines -

Could you be more specific regarding the design or shape of the letters?  Could anyone provide images of an original sand cast "COBRA" air cleaner lid for reference?

When I bought my 1967 GT500 about 20 years ago it had a die cast air cleaner base and sand cast lid.  I would like to determine if the sand cast lid is original or a reproduction.  There in no engineering number on the underside, and there is no obvious evidence of a "box" around the "COBRA" lettering.

The photo confirms the hose and check valve/flame arrestor in way of the oil breather and air cleaner.  Can anyone provide a photo of and/or part number for the check valve/flame arrestor for this application?

For a 1967 GT500 with thermactor emissions system, what components connect the port on the oil breather tube to the elbow fitting on the bottom of the air cleaner base?  Are there any photos that show those details?

Overspray on intake was applied during engine rebuild.

Should there be any engine block paint overspray on the base of the distributor, distributor hold down clamp, and/or hold down clamp bolt?

Based upon the above responses, it sounds like possibly two sources may make limited runs of the spare tire cover sometime in the future.  Is there any estimate when each potential vendor will produce them and the associated cost of the cover?

Does anyone make an accurate reproduction spare tire cover for the 1965 GT350?  I know of a recent attempt to do so.

Does the hose that connects the gulp valve to the port on the top of the smog filter canister have the same "alligator" texture as the other hoses?  Are any clamps used on either end of the hose?
