Wanted to Buy / Re: 2 X 4 carb linkage parts needed here...
« on: February 15, 2024, 06:58:13 PM »
Hello Mike. Someone else was looking for 2X4 linkage not long ago and received a reply from Drew Pojedinec that Drew has had 50 sets made. If you enter 1967 GT500 Carburetors List #2804 and #2805 Linkage, that should get you to the thread.

Great pictures Stephan, thank you for posting. Another question is who is the driver and who are the guys around the cars? The trailer mirror on the passenger door and the whip antennae are really interesting. And the Cobra is running full out. Really cool.

1968 Shelby GT350/500/500KR / Re: Who Repairs Stewart Warner Gauges
« on: January 28, 2024, 03:19:43 PM »
Phil Severence is highly recommended on this website and the Concourse Mustang website. I had him repair/restore the tach on our ‘66. It came out excellent. He may be able to help with your S-W gauges. Here is his email to check with him and ask questions: https://www.phidonrestorations.com/

The Northwest Shelby collection didn't seem to make the broadcast at least not in my area ,they ended  right as they were coming up the staging area's,they showed the yellow kR with the hood up & it had a GT500 air cleaner set up  & a painted black taillight panel.

Same here. Disappointing to not see the collection go across. I was looking forward to seeing these cross the block. Kinda weird broadcast hours as I don’t think they were on the air for Saturday night’s action.

Brian, I would like to add my thanks for your time and effort posting the list of cars and following up with the prices. My favorite use of the DVR is to blow through the auctions then stop for the cars I want to see and hear about. It is fun to guess what a car may sell for and then see the actual results as the bidding takes place. Today will be fun as many Shelbys cross the block. Thanks again.

I have the Mecum auction on in the background today. Would someone provide the background on the "Northwest Shelby Collection?" Here is a write-up and link to the cars being sold, but no mention of the owners or why they are selling:
https://www.mecum.com/articles/northwest-shelby-collection/

Unrelated, I saw a car (not a Shelby) being auctioned from the "FUX Collection." (Not sure how that got past the censor)

In the group of carbs you acquired, is there a carb with the same numbers except the past two characters are BK? If so, that is the mate to the BJ carb pictured. The BJ/BK carbs are the carbs Ford used on the factory 2X4 set ups.

Check that your fan belt has good tension on it. One possibility is the fan belt is not spinning the pump pulley. If you have adjusted the pump to tighten the fan belt as far as possible, try a slightly smaller diameter fan belt.

Up For Auction / Holley Carb on CL C8OF-9510-AB dated 861
« on: December 10, 2023, 10:42:53 PM »
This Holley carb is not mine but I came across it on the local Craigslist. The seller appears to knowledgable as he recommends Drew P for the rebuild. And scores bonus points for listing the numbers on the metering blocks so the buyer is informed.

Up For Auction / 32 Gallon Fuel Tank on CL
« on: November 13, 2023, 11:42:24 PM »
Not mine but thought I would post for comment and on the very, very long shot this may be a unicorn part that came out of an R Model or belongs in an R Model or Trans Am coupe. The baffles inside the tank are very intriguing.

Here is a reposting of Dan Case's excellent explanation of how to decode the date codes on Holley carbs:

Holley® Carburetor Date Codes

Part I  O.E.M. Carburetor Date Codes

O.E.M. models, O.E.M. assembly line models, utilize a three digit date code; numbers or numbers and letters are stamped just below the Holley "List" number on the front face of the choke housing air horn. (Service assemblies set aside during production for making cars will have dates in the production time frame.)

Example:      List - 3259
                    4 B 5

The first digit signifies the year the carburetor was manufactured, 1964 in this example.

The second digit represents the calendar month of production, in our example December. The table below details the complete set of twelve month codes.

Month Codes (Center Digit Of Date Code) for O.E.M. Carburetors

                           Month            Code

                           Jan. ------------- 1
                           Feb. ------------- 2
                           Mar. ------------- 3
                           Apr. -------------  4
                           May  ------------- 5
                           Jun  -------------  6
                           Jul  -------------   7
                           Aug  ------------- 8
                           Sep  ------------- 9
                           Oct  -------------  0
                           Nov  ------------- A
                           Dec  ------------- B

The third digit designates the week of the month produced, the example above was made during week five.

Therefore the List - 3259 above, for a 1965 MUSTANG GT350 289 c.i.d. engines, was manufactured during the fifth week of December 1964.

II Service Replacement Carburetor Date Codes

Service replacement carburetors, those available over the counter years later at O.E.M. dealers, speed shops, auto parts stores, etc, utilize a four digit date code; numbers only appear in this case, stamped in the same location as before under the "List" number. The service unit codes are expresses as "Julian" dates with the model year of manufacture indicated by the additional and last of the string fourth digit. The Julian date codes table for service models is given below.

Month Codes (First Three Digits) for Service Replacement
   Carburetors

Month          Julian Date          Leap Years *

              Jan. ---------- 001 - 031 ---------- 001 - 031
               Feb. ---------- 032 - 059 ---------- 032 - 060
              Mar. ---------- 060 - 090 ---------- 061 - 091
              Apr. ---------- 091 - 120 ---------- 092 - 121
              May  ---------- 121 - 151 ---------- 122 - 152
              June ---------- 152 - 181 ---------- 153 - 182
              July ---------- 182 - 212 ---------- 183 - 213
              Aug. ---------- 213 - 243 ---------- 214 - 244
              Sept.---------- 244 - 273 ---------- 245 - 274
              Oct. ---------- 274 - 304 ---------- 275 - 305
              Nov. ---------- 305 - 334 ---------- 306 - 335
              Dec. ---------- 335 - 365 ---------- 336 - 366

         * Leap Years: 1964, 1968, 1972, 1976, 1980, etc.

As an example of a service replacement carburetor lets examine a current Ford Motorsports Boss 429 replacement unit.

   List - 4647
             2916

This carburetor is definitely a service model since it has a four digit date code. The fourth digit signifies 1986 (It was purchased from Ford in early 1988.). The Julian date indicates that it was manufactured during October. Even though this carb "looks" original on the BOSS 429 engine it occupies, it can not be "original" for a 1969 model car when it was not manufactured until October 1986.

The List-2804 and List-2805 assemblies have wide possibilities for dates as they were a) used on several types of new cars, b) used for more than one model year, and c) used in racing also.

These two models were introduced as a running change during the 1963 model year run of 427 Galaxie 8V engines and were used through the 1967 model year. They were standard equipment on:
- part of the 1963 model year for Ford Galaxies with  427 8V engines
- 1964 model year Galaxie 427 8V engines
- 1965 model year Galaxie 427 8V engines
- 1966 model year CSX31xx 427 Cobras with 8V engines
- 1967 race season Group II 289 race engines in Shelby American Group II Mustang racers
- 1967 model year GT500s with 428 8V engines

There were lots of them installed on new engines over several years. They also seemed to be a popular over the counter offering at least through 1970. The only trick seems to be finding great cores of a particular date time frame with their original dated assembly tags intact.

I made this exact swap on our '66 Carryover. I believe the shifter control box is the same for both the top-loader and our T-10s. The linkage is different The tabs that connect the linkage to the transmission are different also. The tabs for the top-loader are rectangular. The tabs for the T-10 are oval or egg shaped as you can see in the excellent pictures posted by GJZ. I found my shifter on Craigslist but you might also put a "wanted" ad here on the SAAC Forum and the Concourse Mustang Forum. The prices seem to range from $300 up to $600+ depending on condition and what parts are included. Getting the shifter handle and knob is a bonus. Plan on rebuilding the shifter. Scott Drake sells a nice kit.
