On my 1969 Shelby gt500, where should I place my idle speed decal
#2
On a 69 GT500 - I installed a new fuel tank and sending unit during restoration. As usual, the gauge does not register accurately the fuel in the tank.  I have bent the float arm in the past, but it still isn't accurate. Has anyone tried any of the fuel gauge interface modules?  Similar to the Tanks Metermatch ( https://www.tanksinc.com/index.cfm/page/ptype=product/product_id=748/mode=prod/prd748.htm ) And do you have any recommendations for me.

SAAC Forum Discussion Area / fuel issue
March 09, 2024, 10:14:07 AM
I like to run 93 non ethanol in all my cars.  My problem is not only finding it, but finding it close by.  I have found a distributor 60 miles from me, but at 8-12 miles per gallon, to drive there and home would use up a big portion of the fuel. I have thought of a 55 gallon drum, or lots of 5 gallon cans, putting in a fuel tank, etc.  Has anyone else encountered this and come up with a workable solution?  And FYI, I have 12 cars that I need this fuel for.

Concours Talk / Can I be of help
December 20, 2023, 02:18:35 PM
I am at the final stage of completing my 69 Shelby GT.  I have a considerable amount of new, in-the-bag hardware, and other inventory, from AMK, Branda, Deadnuts, etc. that were never used.  I can either post these items to the forums (SAAC and Concourse Mustang), if it would it be helpful, or I can return them.  I thought that I would let you tell me if this would benefit anyone, or a waste of time for me to prepare this list.  I am only trying to help.

SAAC Forum Discussion Area / power steering issue
December 13, 2023, 02:12:30 PM
I have a fully restored P/S pump AND a restored rack and pinion on my 69 GT500.  The pump is full and I have cycled it to remove air. What I don't have is a working power steering system.  A little help, please.

Concours Talk / 69 tilt-away steering
November 21, 2023, 09:10:51 AM
I have never had a car with a tilt-away column, so I don't know about the nuances of this unit. I had my column professionally restored. Now that I have finished the restoration of the car and driven it, I find that when the steering wheel is in the lock position, there seems to be a lot of side-to-side play of the steering wheel itself. Is this normal, or should it feel as solid as the traditional column?

SAAC Forum Discussion Area / 69 gt500 front suspension

In 69, did A.O. Smith drop the front front end?  Right now, my center of fender to floor height is 29 1/2".  Is this correct measurement for a Shelby?  It just "appears" to be higher than I would have expected AND it is much higher than my 69 R code Mach.  I also have a 35 years in business mustang restorer who insist that this is what wrong - his words, not mine - with the car.

Concours Talk / inspection stickers

SAAC Forum Discussion Area / 69 GT500 front end height
October 27, 2023, 08:46:58 AM
I'm not certain, but I "feel" that my front end height may not be correct at 29 1/2". I rebuilt the car with the front springs that came in the car, BUT the motor was not in at the time. I do know that I had a lot of difficulty (after the motor was installed) in getting the shocks attached.  I did NOT measure the unloaded spring height before installing them. I would like your thoughts, and correct measurements, if you would, PLEASE.

Wanted to Buy / 69 GT500 stripe

Decal placement.  Has anyone ever compiled a chart, by year, of where the Shelby specific decals should be placed.  That is where I am in the final throws of getting my car back on the road. I have he "Shelby recommended tire pressure" for the glove box, Shelby Automotive certifies...section 108" - which goes somewhere inside the trunk lid,  and the "engine timing/idle speed" engine spec decal - which I am not sure where it goes.

Has anyone thought of putting together a page for each car showing and identifying where each decal goes.  I know that I would love something like this

Concours Talk / parts source needed
October 12, 2023, 04:02:04 PM
I "WAS" ready to install my remote mirror in the door of the 69 GT500, and discovered that the threaded retainer (in bottom picture) is missing from the cable (top picture) from when it came back from the body shop. Does anyone have any idea as to where I could get this part??

Concours Talk / 69 GT500 AC line
October 03, 2023, 02:44:47 PM
Can someone post a picture of the liquid and return lines.  I need to see how they route from the compressor to the firewall.  What do they go over/under.   I can't figure out how the lines out of the firewall can make the bend to route back along the firewall to come up the drivers side of the engine to the compressor as depicted in my "exploded view manual". A picture is worth a thousand words

Concours Talk / 69 GT500 STRIPES
October 02, 2023, 04:22:02 PM
I am in the final stages of having 3098 back on the road after a 30 year absence. I should be ready in the next few weeks to put the side stripes on the car.  I have been reviewing a lot of web pictures  and have noticed that some of the vehicles have one, or both of the end stripes not properly aligned visually. Some have a slight smile. Some have a slight frown. And some have had a stroke. Is there a trick or technique that best insures that these align properly the full length of the car?

Concours Talk / radiator core support seal
August 31, 2023, 09:45:26 AM
on a 69 GT500, how many staples are used to attach the seal, and where are they located (picture please).  Also, on the original seals, I have been told that there were some notches cut out to overlay the bolts on the seal. Could I get a picture of these too.  thank you.

Concours Talk / 69 GT500 junction block
August 30, 2023, 03:50:31 PM
I am NOT an electrical guy and I need some help.  First, can someone post a picture of an installed and wired junction block for me. Second, my guy informed me that he needs a fused link wire that attaches to the junction block on my car. If so, where do I obtain the correct gauge, color and design for my application?

Replicas and Tribute / vehicle value
August 02, 2023, 09:52:14 AM
After all these years, due to age and health reasons, it is now time to sell my beloved AC Cobra (tribute). My problem is in how to determine the value of the car.  In looking on line, I see them ranging from the $30K's to the $100K's + range. And then there is the problem of knowing where to list, or how to sell.  Can anyone provide some insight?
