1966 Shelby GT350/GT350H / Tim Allen's GT350H
June 05, 2022, 03:15:02 PM
In more than one interview, actor Tim Allen himself, repeatedly claims to have 1 of 50 "Hurst" 4 spd Shelbys in his  prized collection. Pitifully misinformed to say the least. Though commonly referred to as a Hurst, rarely does a collector fumble over his own car collection.

Anyway curious as to what prod number is his Hertz GT 350H that he claims can not get "out of it's own way".

In need of a replacement leather gas cap seal similar to original. All I see now available is rubber, touting made in USA and just like original...sorta kinda.

Are these available currently in leather or do I have to trace one out and DIY?

Thx Ray

I have seen these stripes applied both ways. The registry directions and directions that came with the stripes suggest pic 1 is correct.  Pic 2 is common. Judges which is correct for early Hertz car?? click on each pic to see difference

1966 Shelby GT350/GT350H / current wherabouts of 6s749
January 30, 2022, 04:42:29 PM
6S749 belonged to a very good friend of mine that passed 7/5/2019. Last I knew a dealer had it in Reno for sale. No longer listed so it must have a new home. When listed and probably sold it was grn/white stripes with Webers. Just like to know where it is for sentimental reasons. Originally red with white stripes and may someday go back red perhaps.

Looking to piece together a full set of decent orig quarter window trim pieces this winter. Mine are broken out around the rivet holes with sections missing. Some warping is expected and certainly will be considered. Full set would be nice but I will look at any piece individually.

My restoration is complete with only this exception in the way of showing the car in the spring. Until decent repos are on the market I have no choice. I have tried the fiberglass offerings and they are pitiful. Send pics and price. thx

1966 Shelby GT350/GT350H / New rear glass too wide
June 08, 2021, 07:32:31 PM
4 years ago I bought a new rear fastback glass from Auto City Classics. in Minneapolis.

Today my restoration reached a point ready to install the rear glass with NOS Ford gasket, NOS Ford clips and NOS stainless.  After paying for the install it is apparent  that the rear glass is bowed on the sides 1/8". There are 4 channel clip nails on each side of the rear glass. The glass is touching the middle two clip nails making it impossible to install clips or NOS trim. Measuring, and sighting with the use of a straight edge I see the edge of the glass is bowed. Tempered glass can not be cut or shaved. I can't even use a thinner off shore gasket

So I called the  company. I was told the glass was out of warranty NO OFFER of a trade.  Apparently the glass 'grew' since I drove out of state to pickup rather than ship it. To add insult to injury, it was suggested that my Shelby has had quarters that were put on wrong. My car is an original sheetmetal car family owned since early 70's  As I explained the original glass fit fine. etc etc.  Of course they have never seen or heard of any FB glass being a 1/4" too wide at any point on the sides. To make  matters worse his FB glass is all on back order so nothing there to measure against my new bad glass measurements. I even explained I had pulled the glass and measured both glasses off the car after I had paid $120 (good money after bad) to have it installed and removed. Yep new glass is irregular as hell. Who has bought
new repo, date coded, glass that fits fine with a Ford NOS gasket? -Ray

My original glass has several scratches and looks like maybe a PO tried to scrape the glass with a car key in lieu of a  ice scraper. I know that tinted glass has been disputed on a 65 66 Shelby. My date code is 5K as is 4 of the other 6 pieces. My car was built 5L. My question is how do I document my original glass as tinted, dated etc if I  choose to replace.

Thanks Ray
