February 02, 2022, 04:33:03 PM
I've been watching Marti to start doing metal tags again but it's been a long time now and I think they've just stopped. I need an engine tag and carb tag. Does anyone know a someone replicating them?

Will the Blue Dot P.S. hoses pass Div 2 judging? I don't see the "short" hoses but do see the Dead Nuts has them? Thoughts.

1967 Shelby GT350/500 / Steering wheel removal
October 24, 2021, 10:14:31 AM
A big thanks to Bob Gaines, I was really struggling getting my steering wheel off, tried the knee pressure trick, latest was shoe strings attached to a a puller and many others with no success. Then ran across past post from Bob talking about using an air hammer. Finally came off!  Thanks!  That's what makes the forums so great.

It's been a few months so I thought I'd bring it up again.

It seems like I have so much fuel evaporation because I don't drive the car especially over the cold months, I'm wondering if I just install a non evap. Gas cap for storage. Does anyone else do it?  I use Sunoco Optima.

1967 Shelby GT350/500 / Carpet trimming question
September 14, 2020, 06:23:46 PM
I'm installing the carpet, should I let the carpet lap over where the sill plate goes on or trim right at the top of sill?  I'm thinking if over the sill the plate will be too high and hit the door maybe?

1967 Shelby GT350/500 / Alternator wiring help
August 19, 2020, 12:44:25 PM
There is a wire coming from the alternator (the wire with the eyelet) near the plug that I can't find where to terminate. I've looked at all the wire diagrams and electrical body / build book and don't see it either. It's not connected to the ground wires that go to the block And alternator. Any ideas?

1967 Shelby GT350/500 / Headers!!!!!!
August 11, 2020, 10:26:41 AM
I'm not one to post just for conversation but it maybe will save someone my mistake. I'm finishing up my restoration and trying my best to stay faithful in originality within reason and budget (other than color change lime gold to nighmist, it's been fun to read the posts) the only thing I wanted to change was exhaust system with headers so it could breath better and sound better.  I knew it was going to be a struggle but come on!  I did all the stuff, valve cover off, engine up, driver's side, on and on. Of course trying my best not to nick or scratch the newly painted everything. I went with the JBA try y's thinking they would fit the best after looking at all the header reviews. I had to dent( sorry clearance) the passengers side because the hit the shock tower, clearance ( let's be honest dent ) around steering gear,  and driver's side shock tower,  there wasn't room to get the collector bolt in on the passenger side floor pan. If you're thinking about doing headers I wouldn't!

I'm trying to see where the backup wire Switch goes into the car for a 4 speed.  In the Wiring assembly Manual it shows it going over the trans. Up to the firewall and going in somewhere in the middle. Is that correct?  As noted in earlier post have aftermarket firewall so had to add a couple of holes that were not there. I thought there was a hole right by the shifter. Tony

Not sure if I need to rotate the fitting more and have the tube be more towards carb.

Indiana SAAC / Moving to Carmel area
November 18, 2019, 05:20:09 PM
Hi I'm moving to the area in a month and want to get connected.  Do you have a local club gathering occasionally or meeting? Moving from North East Club (PA) and we would meet every other month.

Can anyone send me a picture of where the speedo cable goes thru the firewall on there GT500 4 speed car? I had the firewall replaced and I think the aftermarket one didn't include the hole for it.

1967 Shelby GT350/500 / tail light wiring fun
August 02, 2019, 08:15:46 AM
So for once I have a comment instead of a question ( I know crazy right ).  I'm restoring the tail light wiring, it is an early one with the pvc type plastic tubing between each socket that is soldered together, and thinking about a guy or gal at SA making a living at a table doing the exact same thing that I'm doing now. Soldering these wires together, installing the new plastic sleeve etc and it just made me smile how hand built parts of our cars are.  That's really special to me.

Does anyone have pictures of original markings on the linkage for a GT500 4 speed? Or could tell me what they are? Each rod and lever had a different color correct?
#18
I'm trying to decipher the original markings on my GT500 #706 in order to replicate as I finish restoration.

This stamp appears on the transmission main case on the driver side toward the rear and bottom of the case.  ON other transmissions, I've seen a "6AE" stamped, this clearly is not that...see the picture.
I believe it is "G6" but I'm hoping someone out here can confirm or advise if more familiar with or have seen other stampings.

FYI, the other stampings (that are more clear) I see on the transmission on the passenger side hand brushed "L Y" in the middle of the case by the fill plug with an orange or pink stripe.  A stamped "21" on the driver side opposite of the ID tag.  On the top plate is a handwritten "224".

Any recommendations of who to send the instrument cluster to for restoration. I've had the "tach guy" do one but he seemed so arrogant and the back wasn't detailed like I would have wanted etc.

I need to go ahead and get the radiator restored if I'm going to run the original one who should I send it to? There are a few poor patches on the lower tank that I would like to have redone to look correct etc.
