1967 Shelby GT350/500 / Long shot - brake drums
June 18, 2022, 06:42:52 AM
In less than two weeks I intend to take #2751 to the Le Mans Classic event in France (I am based in the UK). While preparing the car for the trip I have discovered that one of the rear brake drums is warped causing the brake to 'snatch' on that side.

I have calls in to 3 UK parts suppliers but I'm not hopeful of them stocking 10x2.5 inch drums as Shelby mustangs and Fairlane wagons are rare in this country. NPD has them but shipping is more expensive than the parts and there's no guarantee of getting them in time. Brands doesn't publish a phone number.

Any suggestions before I have to leave the car behind?

Thanks

1967 Shelby GT350/500 / GT350 drive shaft UJ size
November 28, 2020, 09:36:53 AM
Can anyone confirm the size of Drive Shaft Universal Joint I need for my '67 GT350 #2751?  I want to replace front and rear UJs and I've looked online and there are lots of 'universal' sets, and some parts that are specifically for the '67 Mustang, but they don't appear to have the same cap diameter as mine.

I managed to get one off today and measure it - it appears to be 1-1/8" dia (or possibly 1-3/32").  Is that correct for all four caps on both joints?

On my car the gearbox, shaft and axle are all factory original pieces (and probably the joints too...! :-[)

Does anyone have the factory sizes to hand?

Many thanks for your help with this.

1967 Shelby GT350/500 / Crank damper
June 22, 2020, 12:21:22 PM
67 GT350 4-speed thermactor car #2751

My crank damper looks like the outer ring has slipped a few degrees.  I checked it for TDC today and I think it is about 5 degrees off.  So I have located a replacement - a correct original HiPo C3 damper.  However, on checking back to mine on the car, it looks like I've currently got a service replacement C8 damper!!  It's certainly been on the car since 1983...  Hopefully the attached picture is clear enough.

It is date coded B7 which I assume is February 67.  The engine assembly date was 7E9W (May 67?) and the vehicle assembly date was 25th May '67 which all chimes ok.

Did the factory ever use the 'stepped' style dampers on HiPo motors, or is this really a replacement?

David

ps - I think the drill holes you see on the circumference were added when I had the engine balanced a few years back.

1967 Shelby GT350/500 / Seat belt fixings
May 18, 2020, 02:32:29 PM
Doing a bit of lockdown maintenance on #2751 today. Can anyone confirm whether I have the right hardware (bolt, washer, spacer etc) for the fixing of the lap and shoulder harness to the side of the transmission tunnel and if they are assembled correctly? Does the spacer go between the two belt tabs or under them both? (See attached photo)

Any guidance gratefully received.

Many thanks

David.

1967 Shelby GT350/500 / GT350 suspension bushes
December 01, 2019, 08:58:32 AM
I'm planning to replace all the suspension bushes on #2751 this coming spring.  I want to go with original style (but not necessarily concourse) rubber bushes.  Does anyone have any recommendations for suppliers / kits?

This is a purely street-driven car.  I will get the Koni shox refurbished (fitted by the original owner after purchase) and will perform the UCA drop.

Any guidance or recommendations much appreciated.

Thanks

1967 Shelby GT350/500 / Magstar lug nut torque
August 25, 2019, 09:42:12 AM
Just spent half an hour on the interweb looking for the correct lug nut torque for Magstars on a '67 GT350. I thought this would be an easy search as I've looked it up before, but no luck this time!  What changed?

Anyway... could someone let me know the correct torque setting please?

Many thanks

1967 Shelby GT350/500 / Jet sizes
July 11, 2019, 04:17:38 PM
Could anyone please tell me the standard jet sizes (primary and secondary) for the 715cfm Holley on a stock '67 GT350 4-speed?

My car smells like it's running very rich and I want to try some smaller jets in the primaries.  I'm not sure if what's in the carb is correct for sea-level tuning.

Many thanks

Hi - I'm looking to restore the EFFPI steering wheel from my 67 GT350 (#2751).

I think the wheel has been 'restored' in the past, as it appears to have lacquer/varnish on the wood rim and on the black plastic tabs that mount the spokes to the rim.  I assume this to be 'wrong'...

Can anyone tell me if the wood rim was originally lacquered or was it raw wood with some kind of oil treatment?

Any advice much appreciated.

1967 Shelby GT350/500 / Tailpipe length
June 01, 2018, 07:11:26 AM
I asked this question before and got a perfect answer but it was lost when the old forum went -

How far should GT350 tailpipes extend beyond the rear valence?  I recall 3&3/4 inches...  is this correct?

Thanks

1967 Shelby GT350/500 / Tailpipe slash-cut angle
March 24, 2018, 08:31:34 AM
Does anyone know what angle the slash-cut on original tailpipe is?  My guess is 60 degrees but I'm just judging that from photographs.

Many thanks for any help.
