1967 Shelby GT350/500 / 4 speed shifter neutral position
February 18, 2024, 05:08:17 PM
My shifting had become more and more sluggish over the years, so I decided to take it apart.  After a serious cleaning and re-lubricating, it works super smooth, however, the shifter sits to the right (3rd and 4th) when in neutral.  Is that correct?  I would expect it to sit in the middle (between 1st and 2nd), but it's been stopping where I left it for so long that I can't remember the actual resting neutral position.

1967 Shelby GT350/500 / 4-Speed Lower Shift Boot Source
February 18, 2024, 01:13:12 PM
Anyone have a source for a 67 GT500 lower shift boot?  Part book shows C7ZZ 7E138-B, unique size for 67/68 Mustangs with 4 speed and 390/428 engines.

This looks like it could work, but would appreciate any insight:

Need to do a flush.  I know the formulas have changed over time -- what do folks use nowadays?

1967 Shelby GT350/500 / Taking a long time to start
September 12, 2021, 12:00:43 PM
Since I've owned my GT500, if I start my car early in the morning when it's really cold, I'll often have to turn it over for 20 seconds, waiting for the oil pressure to go up on the gauge before it starts.  Next time it starts or when it's warmer the first time I start it, it catches pretty quickly.  The starter never grinds or freewheels, and always engages the engine immediately, just takes time to catch.

Over the past few weeks, it hasn't been cold, and I've noticed that I have to crank it over for at least 10 seconds (again waiting for the pressure to go up) every time I start it.  It always ends up starting, but it's quickly become annoying.

Has anyone else run into this?

1967 Shelby GT350/500 / Battery cable source
March 25, 2021, 01:25:19 AM
Have original cables on my 67 GT500.  Sick of the rough starting and don't want to go with a high torque starter.

Is there anyone who sells reproduction cables with thicker gauge?  Alternatively, does anyone have a source for the battery terminals, in which case I could crimp/solder make my own?  All of the ones I can find anywhere new don't look right.

1967 Shelby GT350/500 / Which dipstick?
January 19, 2020, 01:32:50 PM
I'm trying to understand which oil dipstick is correct to use for 67 428's.

I know the stock dipstick is C7OE-6750-A with the chrome handle, many people have a C7AE-6750-A, and I somehow ended up with a C8OE-6750-C, which I'm looking to replace.

Now reading over these pages:

Assuming you have a stock oilpan, do people replace 67 model dipsticks according to the TSB?  The TSB only references 69-70.  Also, how does the windage tray come into play?  I know people put those on 67 models too.

I have an Autolite Group 24 Battery Cover on the battery in my 67 GT500.

My battery is on it's way out.  Any recommendations on good batteries the cover fits on nicely and doesn't look out of place?  I've heard Exide in the past, but haven't had good experiences with them in the past.

1967 Shelby GT350/500 / Rust on chrome bumpers
September 12, 2019, 11:41:36 PM
My front bumper has started to develop a bit of rust pitting.  I normally use steel wool and lubricant to remove rust, but the taillight thread inspired me to ask if others have alternate/better methods.

1967 Shelby GT350/500 / Correct fuel filter
January 04, 2019, 03:46:22 PM
What's the correct fuel filter element for a 67 GT500 with a 428?

I believe it's C4AZ-9365-A?  Is that correct?  Is that the marking on a concours correct filter, because I see a lot on eBay with numbers like D2AE-9176-A2A on the top.

1967 Shelby GT350/500 / Cooling a 428
July 17, 2018, 01:14:29 AM
Hey all,

Have been driving my 428 a handful of times this summer, and notice my temps can sometimes creep up to about 1-/8" away from the high line of the sweep (not the far right).  This is with freeway (not track driving), and in the ballpark of 210-220 degrees.

What are others running at?  For those that drive these on a more regular basis, what options are there to keep them running cool?

1967 Shelby GT350/500 / Horn trouble
June 05, 2018, 03:50:59 PM
I'm trying to figure out why my horn isn't working.  If I hookup the horns to the battery directly, both the high and low sound great.

Where is the relay located?  Any tips on taking off the horn cover and/or steering wheel?

1967 Shelby GT350/500 / Freeway driving
April 16, 2018, 11:19:57 AM
67 GT500

Thinking about options to stop running 4K RPMs on the freeway on a regular basis.

Running a 3.89 rear end, but I'm hesitant to swap it.  I've done that on other cars before and don't like losing the low end.

What do people think about swapping in a 5 speed versus a GearVendors?  Would like to keep it as original as possible.  I'm not sure if either of these are thought better or worse of in that department.  Other ideas?

1967 Shelby GT350/500 / Trunk Torsion Bar Nut Source

Does anyone have a source for the push nut used on the 67 trunk torsion bar right hand end?
