March 07, 2022, 08:42:47 PM
I have a 68 GT500 convertible that was wrecked years ago in the rear. Im finally getting around to a full restoration and I'm hunting some parts. I need a set of fiberglass quarter extensions , rear fiberglass taillamp panel, right quarter panel  and a frt valance. Let me know what you have. Thanks Olaf

Hello all, Im working on 1453 . While  installing my quarter large trim panels I notice my car was missing the lower brackets that the panels attach to. I looked at my before  pictures and they dont show the bracket . These brackets  are tack welded in. I also searched the web and found pictures of other Shelbys without the brackets. Was this a Shelby thing and if so do the lower trim panels just float there? Thanks for any info. Olaf

Wanted to Buy / wanted 66 auto trans tag PCW-BA

hello just thought I would put this out there. I have the C4 66 transmission for my Shelby but I guess over the years the tag was lost. If anyone has one or knows someone that reproduces it I need one. Many thanks Olaf

thanks again, I will search out past threads on parts as I continue. Like Jeff said overall the car is much easier to do that the 68 Gt500 or B9 etc which  Ive done previously. Ill ask when I hit a road blocks,  Olaf

Thanks i appreciate the info. I just wanted to make sure I'm on the right track. I redid a very original 68 GT 500 in the late 90's which I still have.  I showed it  at SAAC for a few years and tried to drive it a little. While restoring it I realized many of the original parts were still in nice condition and way better than any repo parts sold i.e. weather-strips , carpet cluster bezel, seat covers etc. I decided to retain as much as possible of that original stuff and really focus on making it look great like paint job wise and mechanically correct and running well. Like Camp Upshur I kept the stuff like brake drums, tie rods ect that needed to be replaced. I got a mixed set of opinions while showing it. Some thought it cool to have so much original stuff and some thought it wasnt fresh/new like  enough. I tried for a Gold but Silver was as high as it got in Division 2. SO here I am again.

Since I replace parts for customers on a daily basis I see the repo parts available, some better than others but very few actually equal or better than OEM. Its a hard  to walk the line of original vs restored. I like to see some patina just not major stuff.

Hello, Im restoring Hertz 6S1453 which was mostly a complete car . It did have its share of required bodywork . Before I go down this road I will say I restore cars and have restored many collectible Mustangs and rare Fords for years.

So as I put this car together I prefer to use as many original parts as possible especially parts the car came with. That being said there are some parts like lets say the rear 1/4 windows and the surrounding exterior and interior trim that are original but cant be made to look like new. Ive decided to mix and match things like put repo plastic windows in but use the chrome aluminum trim which isnt perfect. The inside trim is warped but original, Exchange or reuse???  I have repo ones but as ever one knows the repo parts are never exactly the same.

Im building this car for myself and I know some will say build it as you want but I want the car to not only turn out very nice but also retain as much as possible of its originality thus preserving its value. The reality is Ive used many repo parts especially when NOS stuff is hard to find. The car is turning out great but am I on the right track? Olaf

Parts For Sale / 65 shelby original 9"rear housing
December 06, 2020, 05:41:59 PM
Up for sale an original 65 Shelby rear end housing. This housing came with my 66 Shelby project. The housing was blasted and powder coated. Priced at $2200 plus delivery. There are repo housings available in bare steel for $1600 and powder coating costs about $150 so here is your chance to own an original unit vs a repo for near the same price. Email or call 540-five three eight 6302

I know the upper looks longer but they are exactly the same ( a little larger than 50 inches). I was wondering if anyone has ever heard of a larger tube rear being in a 66 K or Shelby. The reason I ask is a friend that is pretty versed on K codes said he saw an old post on the old K code forum where there was a discussion regarding others having a large tube 9 inch rear housing. I'm just curious , It would seem to me the issue with using a larger tube rear (like the 67-70 Mustangs)  would be the alignment of the Ubolts in the shock plate. Any thoughts? Many thanks for your responses. Olaf

1966 Shelby GT350/GT350H / need help rear housing question
September 23, 2020, 10:27:49 PM
hello to all! I bought my car 1453 (built in March) with what appears to be an original 65 9" rear housing. I was told it should have the normal 66 housing with a fill nut plug in the rear. I bought what I was told was an original 66 K code housing. My question is the new rear housing looks like a 66 but doesnt have a tapered tube like the 65.  I dont want to make a mistake. Advice would be appreciated. Olaf

I have one believe its 973 but I would need to double-check the number. Mine was bought out of Kentucky years ago but was very original with one repaint. It doesn't have stripes now but did come with them originally. Im in Va
