1968 Shelby GT350/500/500KR / Re: Color of adhesive for plenum
« on: January 19, 2022, 10:14:40 AM »
After your post I went back out and looked at the unrestored.  I found small places where the adhesive is reddish brown, it looks like someone used a paint brush and painted it black.  Probably wanting to cover up the ugly original color.

What is the appropriate/correct color of the adhesive to attach plenum to 1968 Shelby GT500 KR, car is white?  I read Mr Tim Lea's article where he stated and showed a reddish brown.  My other unrestored 1968 KR is white also and the adhesive is black.  Went to several auction results at Mecum and Barrett to look at pictures of sold cars.  Most appeared to be black adhesive, some were painted the same color as the car.

Thanks Bob and nice to hear from you.  It is a GT500 KR.  I looked at only removing the passenger motor mount bolt only but the driver side valve cover looked like it would hit the brake master cylinder.

My original was even in worse shape, it was gone.  Got a new one, complete with S tube, Snorkle, and breather.  Got new studs for exhaust manifold also, got the studs in carefully but the heat shield is a challenge.  Thinking about taking bolts out of the motor mounts and jacking the engine up to gain some room.

Maybe I called it the wrong name.  It is the shield that wraps around the left exhaust manifold, attaches to a riser, then a snorkle that attaches to the breather.  My 68 Shelby GT 500 Convertible has one also, but it is completely installed.

Ran across this thread while searching for some help installing exhaust heat shield on 68 Shelby gt 500.  Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
