Shelby American History / Re: Riverside Raceway

Ran it a few times "back in the day." Challenging.  Required talent and experience.  Had a sudden rear tire failure entering turn 9 that is still stuck in my memory of the track.  My lucky day.  LOL

CSX 2000 Series / Re: T-10L tail housing

When Jim Cowles introduced these years ago I believe his price was $1500.  Shelby Parts may still be selling them.  "Back in the day" most racing Cobras had the aluminum tail replaced with the steel version.  The original aluminum versions were generally fine for the street but cracked under racing stresses.  The flexible flyer aspect of the 289 Cobra chassis and the driveshaft put a lot of stress on the long "L" aluminum casting.

Agree about El Mirage.  You needed to keep your head on a swivel as there was always fast moving stuff out there.  One time saw Brock out there with an Ultra Lite.

With a tin can gas tank, clamped filler neck and open battery posts, what could go wrong in a rear end impact?

I have a photo and results sheet for a race in 1968 involving you car.  PM me if you want them.

Interesting.  I bought one as soon as they became available over-the-counter and it had the pvc port.  Still going strong.

Is there a Hi-Rise version of the Cobra manifold without the pvc port?

Any loyalty Carroll had to the cars was always trumped by making a buck.  His lawsuit against SAAC over the Registry is a clear illustration.  And Shelby Licensing has no loyalty to the old cars as illustrated by their release of the old serial number blocks on new replicas.  I suspect the parts support to Vegas Cobras will transition rapidly from Shelby to the aftermarket too, as Mustangs dominate their priorities.  As Yogi said, "deja vu all over again."

I used wheels just like those listed on BAT when I was in SCCA racing with the Cobra back in '68.  Fine wheels.  Common hubs allow switching back to wires.  Converted to Halibrands because they were lighter without the adapter.

Now, how about a cap for the '66 wheel?

CSX 2000 Series / Gary Burke RIP
November 01, 2023, 08:46:20 PM
Sad to just learn of the passing of Cobra racer Gary Burke.  In his first year of SCCA racing in 1968, Gary successfully raced his weber-carbed/flared-fendered 289 Cobra, CSX 2239, to several race victories and the San Francisco Region's A-Sports Racing championship.  Gary and 2239 helped extend the Cobra racing legacy well after Shelby had moved on to Mustangs and GT40's.

But 100% positive on EPay!

Interesting treatment of the "adjustable" rear fenders.  Back in the day SCCA production car rules required tires to fit under stock width fenders.

I can't get past Gabby Hayes!
