I agree with this.  If it says for the "1970 Mustang Sportsroof" I have always understood it to mean any "02" body Sportsroof which includes B9's and even Shelbys.

Mach 1 Marti's will say "for the Mach 1" rather than Sportsroof.

At first I thought they were hipo but after a closer look at some caps on ebay.. I think they are just regular 289 caps as they weren't as thick, top to bottom, as the ones in the link.

Thanks Bill, very pleasantly surprised to find that SCJ block.  I figured it had been melted down 40 years ago and was part of a bunch of Toyotas today.

False alarm...  Went to look at the block for myself yesterday and no hand stamped vin to be found.  Block had been sandblasted and was clean as a hounds tooth so it wasn't hid under any gunk.

Casting numbers were C5AE 6015E  with a 6C14 date code.  Maybe a service block?

Only hand stamped numbers were on the machined surface where the oil pan bolts up.  CPA 04  and  6O14C.

Man said he was told it came out of a 350 and claims to have pictures of the engine being removed but like I told him maybe it was originally blown in 1966 and was replaced with a service block in 67.  Who knows what could have happened 50 years ago. The owner of the 350 at the time of the blocks alleged replacement was Lon Hill who is now deceased.  I have no clue whether the car was a 65 or 66 but it was white with blue stripes when I saw it.

Sorry to get anyone's hopes up but figured I owe it to my Shelby friends to check it out and at least try to reunite the block with the car if it was in fact a true story.  I don't believe there were any nefarious intentions on the old mans part he was simply repeating what he had been told.  I found my decades gone original block for my SCJ Sportsroof last summer and only hoped to provide a similarly joyous experience to some 350 owner somewhere. ;) :)

Thanks to all for the feedback and messages.  I called the guy this morning and have set a meeting for Monday to go take a look.  It's about 40 miles from me.  Based on what the guy said it is allegedly the original block from a car I had all but forgotten about.  According to the blocks current owner, the 350's original block had a crack and was replaced with a date correct block.  The man said the block has been repaired and he bought it in a garage clean out type scenario.  I have no use for it and only hope to see it reunited with the car.

The back story...  About 15 years ago, a Chevy guy I have known for decades, asked me one day if I knew, so and so?  I will leave names out for now.  I didn't, but he said since you are both Ford guys you need to know him.  So a few weeks latter I paid the guy a visit telling him our mutual friend, Waymon, said we should meet.  There was this beautiful GT350 in his shop but I understood him to say it belonged to a customer but the guy that currently owns the block says the 350 in fact belonged to him.  Maybe he was just being cautious not wanting to admit it was his.

Anyway.. We talked for 30 minutes or so and the guy with the Shelby told me he specialized in undercarriage restorations and was expecting a BOSS 429 to come in for work the next week so being a former B9 owner that really got my attention.  I am in a rural area of Southern Illinois and was surprised that all this was taking place right under my nose as I only lived about 5 miles away.  Unfortunately, the guy was apparently a heavy drinker as every time I would pass a local tavern his red Bronco was sitting there and I never got to see the BOSS 9 since he was never home.  He ended up dying maybe 4-5 years ago so I would have to assume the 350 was sold.  So... maybe the current owner of the 350 will recognize my clues.  Boondocks of Southern Illinois...red Bronco...  I love a good adventure so will report back on Monday after I see what he has.

A local guy has a "289 hypo block" for sale, so the ad says, that he claims came out of a 65 GT350.  I don't know anything about early Shelbys but wondered if there is any way to identify a genuine Shelby block.  Blocks weren't vin stamped till 68? were they?  Any other markings that could authenticate?

FWIW...In 2014, I sold the car pictured, 70 R code Sportsroof 4 speed, 1 of 4 black on black CJ Sportsroofs for $11,050.  It was a rolling shell on new Radial TA's with correct Argent wheels and rust free except for some pin holes in the front floor pans.  I could have sold 6 of them so I may have sold it too low but that is what I had in it.

I don't pay much attention to the early cars prices but since a 69/70 GT500 still remains on my bucket list I kind of pay attention to those and am amazed by the price spread.  You'll see what appears to be a nice car for 75K then click on the next one and it's 150K...

I bought a 9000lb capacity Revolution which is made by Rotary.  Unfortunately it won't fit within the space you have to work with.  Maybe a trimmed down version is available from some manufacturer but they all seem to be about the same size and my posts are basically 10' x 16' center to center.  Below is a link to the model I bought and a picture of my lift.  One of those things you'll wonder how you ever lived without one once you get one.  Good luck!!  Edit...just looked at the Revolution 8000lb lift in the link and it looks like it will fit in your space but unless your other car you want to park underneath is a GT40 I don't think the height will work for you with either lift.

To answer your question "where do you think the values are going", I think it depends on the model year of the newer cars.  I belong to the 26K member fordgt500 forum too and based on what I've gathered, there seems to be 3 different factions of enthusiasts for each version of the newer cars, I guess kind of like there seem to be 3 different factions for the early cars.

The 07-09 cars have the die hard group that for whatever reason seem to deplore the newer versions.  I don't pay a lot of attention to that era of cars but I think you can buy them all day long for 25K give or take.  They don't seem to be getting any cheaper but I don't believe they will ever get any more valuable either.  There were too many of them made and their successors are better as they improved as time progressed.

Hope you got thick skin on this one Rex but the 2010 seems to be the red headed step child of the 2010-2012 era due to the 10 having the iron block and heads.  The 2011-12, with aluminum block and heads, seems to be the ones most consider to be the best value and best candidate for modifying as it seems like everyday some newbie is asking should I buy a 12 or step up to the 13/14 with an extra 112 hp over the 10-12.  Of coarse the 13/14 guys usually say just get a 13/14 and save yourself the aggravation of modding while the 11/12 guys will say save your money just mod a 11/12.  I believe the 10-12 will continue to decrease until they bottom out like the 07-09 in the 20's and will likely stay there.

My first foray into the new ones was with a 2012 and I really wish I had just kept it instead of letting HP, that I didn't need, seduce me as the 12 with 550 hp is enough.  Anyway, I had no more than bought the 12 when the 13 and it's 662 hp came along and I figured 10 years from now this 2012 will just be another Shelby while the 13/14 will be the top of the heap and may in fact appreciate at some point.  So I trade off the 12 with only 1200 miles and ate 10K in depreciation just to get a 14 and all that hp. 

The 13/14 does seem to be holding their values better than all the rest and some believe they will bottom out around 40K then start going up from there again at some point and I tend to agree.  Unfortunately for me I have decided to sell my 14 to bring home another car so looks like another 10K hit on depreciation is in store for me, assuming I can get 50K for it since it only has 1800 miles.  Good luck to you but my advice is sell your 2010 now and take your licking as I don't believe any of us will still be around when a 2010 has appreciated back to anything close to sticker price.
