Bob,
Looking at what I have it is very close to the image you showed for a 69 part.  The jamb nut is different and I may have never received the support brace in 1978 when I bought it from Burwell's in Portland Oregon. There were very few reproduction parts at that time.  So I can only guess this could be one of the after market units that was being installed by dealers in that era.  My set of keys even have the same black zip tie as shown in your photo.  I may just make a support arm as shown in your photo and call it close enough. Thoughts?

Ed,
Then what your saying is not all antennas would have been the same.  Basically what the dealers thought looked good or what was in stock.

Thank you Bob, I doubt ill go 500 bucks.  In your mind the best reproduction one that works is?  Maybe what T Branda offers.

Thank you both for your response, I need now to locate and replace what I have.

Did you get your question sorted out?  I have a 69/70 and as the top folds down the bottom or first fold goes forward, then I push the second fold towards the back of the car.  The last fold goes to the back as well.  The very first fold or bottom one is just a little over the back seat trim and I tuck it down prior to placing the boot on.  I'm stating all this from memory and can always double check if you need me to but feel 98% correct.

I did purchase a white kit from T Branda last week.  It is white for sure, the kit I put on the car in 1979 was 3M and from Ford back then.  It's off white or more yellow.  I think the white one will look good on the Royal Maroon paint, lets just keep that to our selves lol

Hi,
I've owned my car since 77 and the antenna has always been on the drivers side.  Does that seem correct you you guys?  Second thing is I replaced it with what I was told to be original style for Shelby.  I did that in 1979, Now I'm repainting the car and really question the correct antenna. I will attach some photos for your opinions.  Thanks in advance for your thoughts

Yes I agree, my maroon car (post 28 I think) has a strip kit that was original.  Bought in 79 the yellow tint actually matched the white soft top much closer.

Years ago I bought one and they ran the material in the wrong direction.  It stretches one way more than the other so HEADS UP TO THAT

Hahah you know that was not staged but does make a great conversation.  We had just had a party at the paint shop with a live band and went through 10 Kegs.  I'll never forget because we called the cops on our self to break up the event.  It blew up on us and the beer was gone in 2 hours.  I kid you not.

I just ordered the stripe kit YAY....

Thank you all for jumping in on my question for a white stripe kit.  I was asked when I bought my car and it was in 1977 at 18 years old.  My first car was a 65 mustang (hooked) and there was a guy who said "Keep my cars running" and ill let you borrow them when you want....  Seriously he had 2 1970 GT500's a hard top and a convertible.  By buddy and I did just that, while still in High School we drove these care to school and played hooky in the fast lane. By the time we got to a ripe age of 19 the owner said these cars are for sale.  DONE! in 1979 I painted the car.  Its still nice but why not make it "wet" looking again ;)

As roommates renting this house you can see both of them parked in their stall..Circa 1978 lol I added a photo of Carroll sitting my car 1981, prior to it being popular Carroll asked me "can I sign you car?" While leaning over the car to sign the air cleaner he broke the fiberglass fan shroud. He looked at me and said "you know how to fix that right?" well worth fixing just for the story and all the photos of that day.

Ill pick up the new stripe kit, I agree a tad whiter will still pop on a Royal Maroon car

Howdy,

Any advice on where to buy a white stripe kit for a 70 GT500?  I'm hoping to find a reflective type perhaps 3M original material???  Last time I bought one for my car was in 1978 and I thought its time to repaint the ole gal... One more time ;)

Thank you
Rick
