The Lounge / Re: Why did the Forum server go down?
October 02, 2023, 04:10:09 PM
Guys, you can make light of this all you want but I tried to log on twice this morning and got nothing. Someone or something is messing with the server and it's making me uneasy.  I get the feeling that no one is manning the helm and we are 'adrift".

Does anyone read this stuff beside us?  Are we the only ones who givea$&#t whether the Forum is secure from another fatal crash?

Shelby American was just a twinkle in his eye but he was selling cars in Dallas and at the top of his game racing. (pic on p.8 )

...which causes me to recall the complete failure of Forum V.1 and the loss of all history.  We do have back-up, don't we??

Yes indeed the market has spoken and one has to realize that you have one less  buyer with a large disposable income is off the market.

More cars less buyers with that "cash money"
Not only is your first sentence has no real substance to it rooted in fact(See Speegle's post above) your second sentence is why so many dislike you on the forum.

I concur. FL SAAC is hoping that the entire collector car market will tank to the point that he'll be able to purchase a '66 GT350 for $80K. Sadly, for him, it ain't gonna happen. Those days are long gone, never to return.  His best bet is to find a good, solid K-Code fastback and work his way up the food chain like so many of us did in years gone by.

Yes, "The Market has spoken" and, IMHO, this particular car was won at a reasonable price. It was missing a few very rare and expensive parts but it's a good, "local show"/driver quality car.  Greater attention to details would've yielded a higher price.

Just hammered at $160K + $5k BAT fee.

Suggest you just adjust timing for smoothest idle.  I like to extend the radio antenna while I rotate the distributor and look for the least vibration.

Sorry to learn that.  I'm so old, I remember when it opened. My folks started going down to Sarasota on vacations back in 1951 and eventually retired there. Back then, it was  Ringling Bros. Summer camp and I remember sitting in the stands as they filmed "The Greatest Show on Earth".  Sarasota was just a nice, sleepy little town on the TAMIAMI Trail. Now, it's "Lifestyles of the Rich & Famous".

For cars like ours, people buy what they want and what they can afford.  Some can afford more than others.  The market determines value and this is a perfect example.  Someone wanted this car and this is what they thought it was worth.  No one else thought it was worth more.  For those of us who are enthusiasts rather than investors (or speculators), we don't really care what the market thinks. If the market "tanks", it won't matter to some of us.

Since "discussion" is permitted in this section, I have to ask the obvious question: Was it the color change that affected the hammer price or what?

Granted, some of his movies were less than memorable but most of them were.  As for his racing ability, he was more serious about that than he was about acting (which was pretty serious). For those of us who saw him race, he was 110% focused on just that. Winning the '95 24 Hours of Daytona at age 70 is a record that still stands. Budweiser being his beer of choice, I wonder if he'd let the latest "brew-ha-ha" change his drinking habits. :)

...or "The Hustler"...or "Cat on a Hot Tin Roof"...or "Nobody's Fool"...
BTW, if you want an excellent read, get a copy of "PAUL NEWMAN, The extraordinary life of an ordinary man".

I think that finding a NOS harness in this day and age will be daunting and, if found, extremely expensive.  FWIW, when I restored 6S1487, I used an ALLOY METAL harness and, other than the aggrevation of installing it, I was very pleased with the quality and, most importantly, all circuits worked the first time!
