While we're on the subject of '60s California customs, here is one of my favorites -

The "Li'l Coffin" by Dave Stuckey.

Howdy honker -

The Mustang and the Fairlane were customized by the Alexander Brothers for Bob Tasca.

The Mustang was called the "Tasca 505".

Note door handles on the Fairlane and it looks like there might be openings for the exhaust between the door and the rear wheel opening.

I'm not sure of the timing with the Mustang and it's Shelby-like scoop and grill treatment.

At it's inception, Shelby American was very much a part of the California racing, hot rod and custom scene of the '50s and '60s.

Dean Moon, Dean Jeffries, the Alexander brothers, the Barris brothers and myriad other fabricators, painters, designers, builders and racers all had an impact and influence on each to some degree and you can bet the factories back east were paying attention - along with toy manufacturers and model companies.

It's plain as day to me in the look of the Shelby Mustangs from '66 on - especially '67.

Kar-Kraft even went so far as to hire Mike Alexander to work in their Design Center on Larry Shinoda's recommendation.

Very cool, thanks for posting.

That wreck starting at 14:18 was pretty hairy!

That car is pure art.

We are in agreement there - the McLaren Can-Am cars are among the most beautiful ever.

Am I remembering correctly that Smith lost most if it's Shelby related files in a fire?

Could have sworn I read that in the Registry but can't find it.

Not sure the math works out for it to be Kim Farber -

I think it would be the September 1966 Playmate Dianne Chandler.

Phillip, what dealership is that photo from?

That photo is from my August, 1967 issue of "Lincoln-Mercury Dealer Management News and Review" magazine and was taken at Uptown Motors, Milwaukee, Wis.

From the article it seems Playboy Magazine's September Playmate of the Month (they don't even give her name) made a one-day personal appearance to help publicize the Cougar automobile (their wording).
