I did the swap and haven't looked back since. I kept the orig 3.89's and love it. I can rip through the gears and leave the smoke a rolling. It has handled the torque with no issues .
I did the swap 2 years ago. Just my experience with it. Your car do whatever suits you.

I've owned both and would have to go with small block. It's just fits my spirited driving. I also like having less weight on those front tires. I do like my 70 stage 1 with the 455 when I feel like melting the tires off after a stressful day at work

Just picked up an orig all aluminum T-10.  The tranny came out of an early carry-over car. Its in wonderful condition and was rebuilt a few years ago. It was pulled out of the car and replaced with a 5 speed. Car was sold and person didn't want it. Go figure.. My question is what cleaner would you suggest for the case to get rid of the carbon deposits on the aluminum? I will be putting up for sale on forum very soon.
