The Lounge / Re: TIRE RECOMMENDATIONS?
« on: December 04, 2018, 09:11:18 AM »
No, I live in San Antonio, TX.

thanks for all the recommendations.  I may end up going with the BFG's for now but the Avon solution is something I'm going to have to look into.

The Lounge / TIRE RECOMMENDATIONS?
« on: December 03, 2018, 04:01:01 PM »
Any tire brand and size recommendations on an authentic look but radial type ride for my 68 GT500KR Convertible?  It's a rebody and I've opted to go with a reproduction 10 spoke wheel because it's never going to be a true thoroughbred obviously.  I love the look of the bias ply's but those get a little dicey on my other cars with some of the roads I drive on.  I'd like to be a little wider on the back rims for practical traction reasons.

thanks, Don

The Lounge / DeChroming advice? Anyone?
« on: December 01, 2018, 06:27:44 PM »
Any advice or suggestions on de-chroming or a paint over for this export brace I would like to put back on my 68kr?  Can it simply be sandblasted and repainted?

thanks, Don

Appeals / 289 Build Recommendations? Anyone?
« on: November 29, 2018, 04:25:28 PM »
Can anyone recommend a "go to" 289 build package/kit that will get me in the 450+hp range?  I'm going to start up a 65 FB project soon and have a 289 (Possible HP) engine out of a car that was parted out that I can repurpose for this project.  The FB body is from a 289 4v but not an HP or GT.

thanks for any input you can lend. Don

Guys, I appreciate the feedback on the authenticity but this car is a long way from a thoroughbred, it was merged with a donor car years ago.  It's a great little car especially for the price but I would prefer the aluminum 10 spokes on this one.  Please let me know if you have a lead on any.  thanks, Don

Services Offered / Solar Power Air Conditioners / Heat Pumps for your SHOP!
« on: November 28, 2018, 12:07:36 AM »
Have the coolest shop in town.  I am a Shelby owner/collector but my day job is solar energy.  We recently acquired the distributorship for an extremely cool 1-ton mini split a/c - Heat Pump with a SEER 75 equivalent efficiency.  This is a Gen 5 model with 10 years of manufacturing history.  the unit is precharged w/ R410a coolant and comes with a 10' lineset making it a dream for a do it yourselfer and IF the outdoor unit can go on outside on the opposing wall then the factory line set will work without modifications.  If you don't have a/c experience you can install the unit and pay a local mom and pop $100 to come out and commission it.  This unit is intended to be connected to grid power and solar power so you have 24hr access but it will work off grid too (during daylight hours only).  The indoor unit is also d/c powered so you don't have to install an inside power outlet which is also a money saver.

we can sell you the solar panels too but you may be able to get them more easily from a local supplier.  the unit works on 3,4,5 or 6 72 cell solar panels and wire directly into the outdoor unit.  the cost is $1450 + freight not including solar panels but this is about the price of most of your non-solar competitors.  Please don't hesitate to call, text or email me if you have any questions or want to see a data sheet.  At my shop, I just leave the breakers off and let them run on solar power during the day and kick on the breakers only as needed.  a 48v off-grid unit is also available but the battery and charge controller can make this option a bit pricey.  If you have grid power available this is the way to go.

thanks, Don

Wanted to Buy / WTB 67-68 Original 10 spoke aluminum rims
« on: November 27, 2018, 11:38:33 PM »
I have a 68KR that needs a set of 4 10 spoke aluminum rims and I would prefer to not go with reproductions.  I don't mind some cleanup and resto but don't care to do a major overhaul on them.  I also don't need the tires but you can leave them on if they come that way.  Please email me at don@advancedsolar.com if you have any for sale.  please send pics too.  thanks, Don
