There are many "Shelby restoration" shops. A few are very good others so so and some should be doing Camaros. Do your homework and get references. 20 years ago the accepted paint job was clear coated and buffed to mirror like quality. Today a single stage paint with the proper orange peel and overspray will garner you points. Check with the MCA if they have a painter they can recommend in your area. Dare I say they were just Mustangs when they left San Jose........
good ideas. These days when paying for a paint job I'll have it done to show quality standards and take the points deduction for not having orange peel and such. Why? No matter how "good" you restore one it will never be exactly how it left the factory because they are only original once. But that is me. I've have one expert tell me  about a known famous car that  has too much orange peel in the paint. LOL. All subjective. About Camaros... well there are some Camaros worth a lot more than most Shelbys.

Wow! High bids already. I'm very familiar with this car. Some of you have seen the "Before Restoration" pictures. I hope the seller is very transparent about the car's history. I'm going to keep an eye on this one. And, no, I won't make any negative comments in the auction.
What is a negative comment? I'd say if the seller isn't transparent  and you correct them is that really a negative comment? I'd say you would be helping the Shelby community out. Don't throw comments out there  but answer questions if you have  the knowledge to answer them.  WOW, the car came with a HEATER!!!. Must be rare! I cringe on most of those write ups. Too bad with the money they make they cannot employ someone who can write ads for these cars.

Is this an original shelby item?
I'd say no because the cutout for the snake isn't form fitting and compare chrome ring. See pics

I got a local guy who is fantastic. If I didn't have him I'd use Drew in a heartbeat. Not only is he an expert but I think the only person who is getting hard to find parts made up.

Oh the old " I never intended to misrepresent the car"

How many clone owners say that?

Answer: All of them
The topic spans 15 years now. The guy really didn't as he was a racer and it was a non titled for street race car. Interesting article I have followed since way back then. I'm surprised the engine has not resurfaced. https://www.yenko.net/forum/showthread.php?t=98327&highlight=reggie+jackson

This was the car. Sold for 290(guess I got a good memory, LOL) One of the prior owners in the ownership chain claimed to still have the original body or parts of it. Engine and tags were sold off of it IIRC.  Time flies as it was more than a few years ago. https://www.barrett-jackson.com/Events/Event/Details/1969-CHEVROLET-CAMARO-ZL-1-COPO-COUPE-70622
Here is the story told by the second and "last "owner of the #27 car. See pic

If you are talking about adding the convertible torque box to stiffen it up I wouldn't do it. 99 44/100% of "real" GT350 owners will not track their cars hard enough to see any gain. I think the Boss 302 was the only fastback that had them added by the factory.

In 1968 all cars had both front torque boxes and it kept on going. 67 was the last year for one sided torque boxes on FBs

It is entirely possible that I am wrong on this BUT I am not a novice at all.

The DESIRED compression readings should be in the 125 to 135 psi range.

The readings you are posting are WAY TOO HIGH. They are APPROACHING (but not quite there) what you would expect to see in a diesel engine.

Diesel engines work without spark. They just compress the fuel with high pressure until it explodes.

The largest component in high readings like yours is the camshaft timing. I would say that it does not have enough overlap, i.e., the intake and exhaust open at the same time to permit the compression to bleed out.

All that you are going to get with those numbers that you have is an engine that can not run on pump gas as we know it and an engine that is difficult to turn over hot on a restart.

As I said, I may be completely wrong here on this but I don't think so. I've gone through this so much more then just a few times myself.

In any case, that engine is showing good compression and more then likely could use a nice "valve job" and new valve train components and those procedures will balance out the compression to a great deal.
Now in the pic below a guy quotes a 1968 Pontiac service manual and how to check for proper compression.

The current price of that car is amazing to me, as mentioned it is above 29 of the 40 '66 GT350s sold on BaT and is heading north.  Considering the condition and originality of the car, that boggles my mind.
When an auction is a reserve auction I don't think much of the bid price unless a car sells. It would surprise me if BaT let a car like this have a reserve above 166K but if they pushed it as a "survivor" and "last one made" who knows unless the auction ends at 166K sold. 101K to 166K isn't normal unless we are talking about a nice 65 Shelby, Boss 429, etc. Look, I've been asked to bid on reserve cars before....

Ah, the old Mecum chandelier bids trick..... 8)
Do you remember when the infamous Reggie Jackson ZL-1 Camaro sold at BJ a few years ago? Stalled at around 200K IIRC. Then steve and Craig started telling the drinkers that the car was way under valued. Then it kept going up to 300K-again IIRC- and stalled there for what seemed like an eternity and I swear-again IIRC- Reggie or someone nodded to the auction guy and the car switched back to 290K(?) and sold. This was a no reserve auction and all captured on TV. I think it was talked about on the supercar Camaro site.

interesting that a non carryover project with 3 days left is at 170K but a 67 Gt500 in legacy colors , stunning and with a 20K+ extra engine on a stand with HM doing all the engine work is only at 175K with a few hours left ?

Agreed on the evenness. #4 seems a little down, but still healthy. If you pull the heads, look at the bore, or maybe a valve  or valve seat?

I would be leaning towards leaving it be.
+1 and my engine is now 55 years old and never been rebuilt. Factory 10.75:1 compression(well not in all cylinders now  ;) )

Hi - good morning

I have pull my 67gt500 engine out to change crankshaft bearings.

We did a compression test to see if any work was required further up.
The result attached, between 175 and 210.
Does this look ok or is work required?

Any input is much appreciated.

Best regards
Jakob
I have been told a healthy engine should have no more than a 10 percent variance. With that said my 351W is a little over that variance on one cylinder only  and that was over 3 decades ago and still runs fine by my standards.

Are there any drawings or photos that show the proper placement of the inspection stickers that are applied to the firewall?
One thing people who are doing cars here should do is look at Jeff Speegle's profile and see his posts. The wealth of info he has posted here with links and pics is phenomenal. Here is one topic  on inspection stickers from last fall. Jeff posted some pics.  https://www.saacforum.com/index.php?topic=24688.msg183854#msg183854

You could get any gauge to work but it wouldn't fit nor do they look the same.
