I'm looking for a set of interior lower quarter trim panels for a 1968 Mustang GT restomod project that I'm working on. I will be modifying them, so ones with cracks or blemishes would work just fine. Any color. I don't necessarily need the Shelby style panels with the roll bar cutouts, but those would work as I have a roll bar in relatively the same spot.


I can pick up new ones at NPD an hour away for $270 but I was hoping to save some $$$ if someone has something kicking around that they no longer intend to use. I also have several stock items that I won't be using on this rebuild, so maybe we can trade? Thanks!

I've been researching power plants for my 68 fastback project and I'm leaning towards a Dove aluminum 427 side-oiler with tunnel port heads and a single 4bbl. I have a price from Dove and it's very competitive with other FE engine packages out there (Pond, Shelby, etc. - but none of them are tunnel ports). My target is 650+HP and 550+ torque. Does anyone out there in Shelbyland have personal experience with Dove engines and would like to share their opinion. PM me if you want to keep it on the down low. Thanks! ~Kevin

I'm looking for used-up Avon CR6ZZ tires to verify clearance issues on a 68 Mustang project that I'm working on. One 245/60R15 and one 295/50R15 is all I need. I don't want to buy new ones because they will be at least a couple of years old before this car is running. I could use other brands of the same size, but the profiles are not exactly the same. I'm in Florida, so the closer the better! Thanks! ~Kevin

Is anyone planning to go to Sebring for the 12 Hours? I'll be there with my rain bonnet. 

Spent Saturday at the Ocala Pumpkin Run car show and I came across another 68 GT350. I saw this one at the Silver Springs show in January (he won 1st place for his class) but I never took pictures. He's not a SAAC member and it appears this was a lost car since the registry only lists the original owner. It is a dual serial number car and he spent many years restoring it (and he's not quite done yet). I'll post pictures here the "hard" way so you can enlarge to your heart's content!

I'm going to start this thread so that all interested parties can comment, suggest and otherwise share their opinion on the future of the SAAC club, forum, etc. It's important that those who have a vested interest also have a voice (a nice inside voice that treats others with respect even if they might disagree with them).

Unfortunately, too many threads have been hijacked lately with discussions regarding the club and website/forum issues and that detracts from the posters original intent. I'll be the first to say that I'm guilty of this myself. Hopefully this thread will allow everyone to comment on those issues so other threads can stay intact and on subject.


Currently there are three websites related directly to SAAC that I know of:

The first two seem to be directly related to the club and this forum as most of you know is owned and managed separately but is linked to from the saac.com site as the "official" SAAC forum. I am not including all of the other websites or forums that focus on Shelbys but are not directly tied to SAAC.


What does/should it mean to be a dues-paying member of SAAC? What roles do each of these websites have in promoting Shelby American automobiles and their history? Why do you want to associate with this club (what do you hope to get out of it)?

When I purchased #2148 in October 2017 from John Barnes I also got binders full of history, photos, receipts - you name it. I am in the process of digitizing everything so I thought that I would share some pictures. Here are a few from the car's drag racing days in the 80's. ~Kevin

I took a few hours today to take a scenic ride up US41 to meet the guru of Webers - Jim Inglese. I wanted to make sure that my Webers were working and synchronized properly and to take advantage of watching someone who truly knows what they are doing so I might learn a thing or two.


First off - Jim is a great guy and it was a real pleasure to meet him. He spent an hour and a half with me and he made a few changes and we took to the road to test everything out. I thought everything was working pretty good before I got there but it turns out that there were a couple of things that needed to be tweaked. And tweak he did! The car is actually running better at low to mid throttle than it used to. All the better as it winds up to 7 grand.


I was also impressed at how easily changes could be made with a couple of screwdrivers, a nut driver and a couple small wrenches. As Jim explained; "these carbs were designed for racing so they needed to be easy to work on in the pits." I've played with 4bbls - changing jets, tuning and checking float levels, etc. and these sure do look easier (when you know what you're doing).


Hopefully I will now get the 56 MPG that Barnes promised me when he sold me the car...

I was going through some papers that I got when I bought my car (2148) from John Barnes and the build sheet that I thought was for my car actually has a different serial number. If you are the current owner of #590 PM me. Not looking to sell just want it returned to where it needs to be.
