Lehigh Valley Region SAAC / Iron Pigs baseball game as a club
« on: March 06, 2018, 12:03:24 PM »
We've been invited to attend a game as a group by the Iron Pigs! I'm waiting for an e-mail with the details, but sounds like a fun club outing! We'd even get special recognition. No cars needed, just baseball fans.

The Iron Pigs are the AAA farm team of the Phillies.

More details to come, and the e-mail will be sent to all current members.

I've seen the car many a time, about an hour south of me

This is the base argument - debate in the Shelby world. The classics continue to increase in value while the new ones slowly drop. The old cars are basically ending up in collections and locked in garages while the new ones are driven. Most current SAAC members/owners are older, and no linger enjoy driving the old cars, the new ones are much better drivers.

All of this in a conversation with Rick Kopec and myself many, many years ago. He was right way back then, saw the future coming. He even likened SAAC to the Model T club in the future, cars gone, only knowledge traded. If you really think about it, we are not far from that already. Look at our conventions now vs 20 years ago. BIG difference in cars and driving.

So, I'm going to throw in another hot item - SAAC vs Team Shelby. Same thinking as all the previous posts and comments above. different cars, different missions. Many of us are members of both. Many of us have both generations of cars.

lots of good food for thought in this thread

I did an article for Hemmings many years ago in Shelby Sequential turn signals. Some good pics from original cars.

I have a scanned copy if you want it

Pretty sure this is Dan (yellow hat), Regina, talking maybe to Ken B?  Vinnie's car (probably the first place I ever saw a CS autograph).

'69 GT350 Royal Maroon. another car that always caught my attention. (Dude, I want my black leather vest back!)

That is me in the yellow hat, I recognize the shirt I was wearing. Blonde maybe my ex? (Regina). Looks like I am talking with Marty Jackler?

Actually, those shows were run by the predecessor of the GSRMC, the old North Jersey Mustang Club. I was show staff back then. And, yes, you do have a pic of the Deceiver. That was a fun car back then.

Many more Shelby's back then than today too. The White 68 350 is Phil's, he had just bought it.

Ahh, way back memories!!

If I remember correctly, didn't that red 68 have an incorrect VIN code?

Bruce Larson, who owned and drove one of the Dragonsnake Cobras, along with being a pioneer in the early days of Funny Cars with his USA-1 Floppers, has an amazing barn filled with his old race cars and memorabilia from his era of drag racing. There is a special section just for his time with his dragonsnake. Many years ago, the second and third Regional meets stopped there, and it was an amazingly popular visit.

I have been in touch with Bruce, and he is open to a Shelby event there, though no time yet, as he has yet to finalize his racing schedule for 2018 (yes, he is still racing a nostalgia nitro Funny Car!)

This would be a combined event with Team Shelby, so we can have a large and impressive turn-out of Shelby vehicles from all years.

Nothing confirmed yet, but I wanted to open the idea up, allow you to comment and share your thoughts.

Last time we ran there, the long course.

Hopefully soon more info will be posted, and also look at the NorCal group to see if they have posted anything yet

Shirt preview

You are aware that Kopec has a less than glorious drag racing career.......

It's a Go!!!   8)

More details coming soon, plan on it!!!

Hmmm... first day back on the forum, only the 20th day of the new year - and yet  "Murphy" strikes with his first scheduling conflict - for September :(

It's a tough time of year to schedule. We're still looking at all the conflicts, major shows, etc in September. Never a clear winner. When we did the weekend in October, less conflict, but much worse weather
