Meeting went GREAT!!!

Everybody got the chance to say hello to each other and have fun, then were quiet while we had the business meeting, then back to more on-line socializing.

Thank You to all who attended!

Lehigh Valley Region SAAC / Club ZOOM group video meeting - 6/8/2020
« on: June 02, 2020, 11:51:12 AM »

We're going to try an experiment in mass chaos, and do a ZOOM club meeting next Monday night. The club will buy a few months of the program, so it won't cost much, and we'll have no time limit, gives a chance to get everyone logged in, and allow time to go over everything. I will e-mail out the script before the meeting, so everyone will see what is to be discussed. As well, if there are new items to bring up, it can be added in advance, so less confusion during the video conference, since there could be a bunch of us on!

I'll e-mail out the ZOOM invites to the current e-mail list, it is for all paid 2020 club members. If you know of anyone else not on the list, or should be on with us, please e-mail me in advance.

I'll go live at 7:00 PM, give some time to get everybody logged in, and we can play "Brady Bunch" for a little bit. At 7:30, I'll ask for silence (or mass mute if you mis-behave~!), and run a meeting directly off the script. We'll go over the Regional meet as well, bring everybody up to speed, and those that want to serve on the committee, we'll have a separate video call at a later date, when more information is available.

Please have at least one slice of pizza in hand, your favorite beverage, a used 50/50 ticket, a door prize, and your favorite club T-shirt on!

Hoping this can be a fun experience, I'm expecting nothing but laughs and chaos!

My best,

Dan Reiter

Another e-mail going out this week June 1-6), updates on everything

On my 67, I used Scotch Brite pads, being careful to only go with the "grain". Carefull work, but Worked great. I am not sure about using any cleaners or liquids, as the aluminum will discolor, and could end up "splotchy". Possibly just dish soap and water?

Just using the Scotchbrite gave a good, grainy finish. I tried a Brillo pad after, it made it shiny and smooth, so went back and re-grained with the Scotchbrite.

Agreed, much information here.

One other method not mentioned yet, is to use the points as a trigger for a hidden Ignition box. That way, you have the points, but they will last now just carrying a very minute electrical current. It's the high current that burns up the points. And by adding a bigger coil, more draw.

Yes, the MSD boxes have a terrible reputation, justly earned. I run a Crane HI-6 box, been great. For years, I ran a Mallory Unilite conversion, and then distributor. Very accurate timing, but now no longer made.

Best wishes and full recovery to one of the toughest, grouchiest, and stubborn Shelby Guys I have known. Worked under him during his years running SAAC since the mid 1980's.

Besides, he's got to set the fashion tone for Hawaiian shirts!

Recover!

The Lounge / Re: Guy in c8 gets kicked out of SAAC? Event?

Watched the video, have some thoughts.

first off, he's not the greatest driver. Missed many of the apexes and proper line. Ignored proper speed in the pit road. That is a no-no. So, he did call attention to himself. I am a 15+ Year instructor, his in-car video showed his driving was sub-par. As well, was the car properly credentialed? The blue sticker discussed means the vehicle has passed tech, and is cleared to run. No sticker is another big No-no.

Many, many years ago at SAAC Conventions, we had full run groups, with a waiting list, and did enforce the Ford-Only rule. It was a SAAC event, so that did happen. In today's world, we no longer get the full groups, and now allow other cars on track to fill out the groups and cover costs. But, did the event postings, paperwork, et al specifically say Ford or Shelby only? I do not know. Implied? Maybe. So, his being asked to park the Vette is unclear from the posted video's footage.

BTW - Was that Lynn Park as part of the officials?

Just an additional source, when I worked in a garage wayyyyy back, we uses Standard Ignition parts. They had a regular line and a Blue Streak line that were supposed to be better quality. I remember them being quality stuff, heavy duty, lasted. Don't ask me for the part number. I gave all the stuff I still had to Bill Collins.

But, I also became a convert to under-cap conversions, as I then gave me the chance to upgrade the rest of the ignition om my 428 SCJ. We all know those engines love a healthy spark to really run good.  I doubt there is one person here who absolutely LOVES changing spark plugs on a 428 Mustang. The system I put together looked completely stock, fooled many, but was a high-power system, never killed a plug again, started better, ran better. I used a MSD Blaster coil, painted it black, put on Ford decal. Solid black Jacobs 8mm wires, used stock boots. Under-cap conversion, and encased the two wires in black shrink wrap, and split them out under the air cleaner. I even went further to get a standard single-point distributor, remove the vac advance, so the conversion module was in the correct place. From the outside to the non-trained eye, looked correct.  Never had to pull a @#&^)*&#^)&#$#@(^#^ Spark plug again.

Just an additional opinion.

(PS - I did carry a spare set of points and condenser just in case.......)

+1 on the swag as well. all of us staffers will miss seeing everybody.

The mask is a great idea, as there will be other Shelby events later this year, and a themed mask would be great!!!
