Pretty much the typical practice for all new cars though the kit;/antenna for most applications came with a template though not all dealers followed them or the new owner wanted them somewhere else if the car was ordered and the buyer waited for the car to arrive verses it sitting on the lot. Allot of people paid for, ordered and waited for their cars. Typically no touch up to do and they didn't care about the bare metal edge of the antenna hole like they would not today if they did something similar on a new car.

There are bits made for cutting larger holes with a smaller internal longer drill bit to use and start a pilot hole. They were available in the 60's There was also the option and instructions in some to drill a starter (smaller hole) then use a saw to cut the larger hole.

Had one 71 that the dealer placed the antenna on the driers side front fender. Guess that is what the original owner wanted

Examples of Ford templates

Good gravy, I've got a whole set of hole coring saws that I use all the time, mostly on wood. I just couldn't imagine taking a hole coring saw to the fender of any car, especially a cool car like a Shelby.

Just to be clear, for others that may read this, the antenna was mounted where the receiving dealer decided. It was not always on the quarter panel.
I'm curious about this.  How did the receiving dealer install the antenna on the car?  Did they just pick a spot, core a hole in the panel and then touch up the damage after?   How would you even core a hole in Ford sheet metal?

You know whats really great 2/4 high sellers were also non matching numbers. Kind of defeats several of the BaT arguments.
I am really interested, what made two of the top sales for a 68 (with non matching numbers) command top dollar?  Were they engineering cars, the color of the car, a Paxton car or was it something else that helped bring them such success?

This fella has been trying to sell this carb for two years.

An NOS carb with missing parts for $3000 is what it is.
What parts are missing?  I'm curious and would like to be educated.

I bough a restored 68 steering wheel for my 68 GT500 from Rim Blown 13 years ago.  It's amazing how nice it is.  It's still in the shipping box but I do take it out once in a while and look at it and damn....... it is nice.

GT500..."Tilt Wheel for sure"...
I think it's cool that Al Renn Jr. is  the signing authorization on both our orders.  I wonder who he was.

Here's some of the Johnny Bolton Ford pictures that pertain to my car.  Hopefully you all can view them.

My car, #1394, is from Johnny Bolton Ford.  I've got a couple of the dealer emblems I'll try and post a picture of this weekend.

I'm actually a NASCAR fan, but I still thought this was funny.
I gotta agree.  Why doesn't NASCAR go racing in the rain?  Throw some rain tires on get at it?  I drive in the rain, everyone drives in the rain, except NASCAR.   Somebody explain to me why?

Dammit, I missed bidding on this car.  I bid on the FP350S (and did not win) but somehow I totally missed this car.  Congrats to the purchaser.  If you decide you want it, let me know.

Which one? BTS65Shelby had one that didn't meet it's reserve. Nice car. I saw it up close as I know the owner. https://www.mecum.com/lots/561643/1965-shelby-gt350-fastback/
443 looks like a top notch car and 459 looks great too.  Either cars would suit me well and I'd be ecstatic to own either car.

I'd also be really happy to own a survivor car that had a clean history, some nice documentation, a few bumps and bruises and a current owner who would be willing to pass their pride and joy on to the next caretaker.  That would be me.  I'm the guy who would drive it and share with everyone for the next 30 years. I'd drive it with delight on those glorious summer Sundays to the grocery store and the occasional car show.

Whatever car finds its way to my home is just fine, I'd just like to put a 65 GT 350 next to my 68 GT500.

Agreed.  My observation was not meant to be a reflection of the market as a whole, just the cars at this auction.

Also, I personally know one of the cars that didn't sell, and it was a great car - well known car.  That surprised me but seeing that the other two 65s were super low was also interesting.

I will say this:  I've seen basket case 65 GT350s sell privately for almost the same money in the past year.  Crazy indeed!
Any chance you might be willing to put me in contact with the the owner of the 65 that didn't sell?  I'm looking for a 65.
