Having restored and owning probably 50+ cars over the years and never forgetting a Shelby number there rarely is a day that goes by I don't see one of the numbers pop up. Most common hands down is 007

Here's another detail not typically found, stamping on outer part of rim

Here is evidence glue in wheels were produced later than even April. This one dated July 69.  History of this wheel is it was installed to replace one damaged by accident shortly after new so obviously service part. Note several things, first glue in style, second ink stamping on inside of rim (not done on assembly line)

Could that be a 1975 date code? The date of remanufacture?
Might even be later (85/95) as original distributor was at least 73

Ed i've seen distributors like you're talking about where they look like they were re-stamped for resale from reman suppliers. Why do you think they rest stamped the date code on this one though? I agree it's probably a factory remanufacture.

I think we've moved off extremely unlikely based on several first hand examples

There have been several known original cars with glued and riveted on same car. Certainly not common

I have copies of Tom's original blueprints and there were different drawings for the red and black background versions. Having said that I kind of doubt he made a new mold for the black one. It is worth noting there is about 8 months difference between the first red ones observed till the rpo black version

Sorry, after I posted original question I was on the road yesterday. Pete covered a lot of it. Easiest way to tell if you don't have 2 side by side (or seeing hundreds over the years lol) is length . Originals measure 4.25 repops 4. Other ways are crispness of detail, snakes neck  is longer, tail skinnier and cobra jet lettering is smaller and clearer on originals.
Original posters picture is definately a repop
