Wow.  Beautiful car and detail!  Congrats!  I bet it is a blast to drive!
Did you polish the valve covers and air cleaner yourself?
I am going to do the same with mine.  Just ordered the Cobra 427 covers.

Any idea what assembly plant that is?  Looks like a falcon on the other side.  Great pic!

Yes, big thanks to all vets for their service and sacrifice!  Not many left from World War 2 as their age would now be 90 minimum.

Nicely done Bill!

We have several drives a year at our church for local community centers.  This fall ...
Raised 10k diapers for local pregnancy resource center
Raised 1000 pair of socks for Sole Loved - Kids with new shoes and socks
Toy Drive for parents to shop at greatly reduced prices for Christmas toys -  Second Mile Ministries
Annual Operation Christmas Child Shoe-box Ministry - Samaritans Purse - Toys for kids throughout the world.

Great time of the year to be a Difference Maker!

Great Father Son Project - Meaning your going to need your Dad to bail you out.

Great Winter Project - Meaning its too darn cold to work in the garage, so let's wait until Spring to figure out what all is wrong with it!

It's only original once - Meaning there isn't an original part left on it!

Great Patina -  Meaning too cheap to get a nice paint job!

1967 Shelby GT350/500 / Pics 1968 and March 1971
October 18, 2018, 10:39:36 PM
Hey Guys,

The 2nd owner of my car Mr. Kevin Mahoney (1968-74) sent me some info and history on #861 as well as two original polaroid pics.  The first was taken shortly after Kevin purchased the car in 1968 and the second is dated March 1971 with a replacement fender.  Kevin said that he "hit a tree in a snowstorm" and ordered parts and had Wilmington Ford do the repairs.  A few of notable quotes from his write up ...

"I raced it at Epping NH.  I also road raced it around Weston, Ma.  It was the hottest and fastest car in town and got me the head cheerleader!  We would go fishing and camping to N.H  We would fold down the rear seat, open the hatch into the trunk and sleep."

"I use to road race with a GTO, 2 other Shelby's (GT500 & 350) 427 Biscayne, 427 Corvette, 426 Hemi Cuda and a lot more.  It was the 60's and 70's and we loved it!  Got clocked doing 130 on a Mass pike racing Al's GTO.  I won of course!  Nobody will ever have the thrill with that car that I had.  Its too expensive to do what I did to it!"

Great stuff!  So glad that I was able to locate Kevin and his willingness to share stories and pics.  Kevin, closed his letter by saying "I've been searching for that car for 30 years!"

Well, I am not going to use this yellow strap for sure!  However, It did do the trick to get the engine off the engine stand.  Torque converter due in this week.

I think I will go with the double lift plate as mentioned.

Hey Guys,

Thanks for all the replies and recommendations.

As a follow-up, I talked with the rep from Mac's.  For the FE dual-quad, they said to use the front carb
with their pivot plate when removing/installing engine only and use the rear carb location when installing/removing
engine and trans together.

They sell a lot of pivot plate adapters for the LS and coyote engine, but nothing for the FE dual quad or tri-power.
They have no plans at this time to fabricate an adapter plate.

I will go with their recommendation and use the rear carb location.

Thanks again!

Ron

Thanks for the great replies everyone!

I still need to know if the lift plate goes on the front or rear carb location or does it matter?

Torque converter should be in next week with mid 50 to mid 70 temperatures outside.   That is great Texas outdoor weather!

Have you guys used a lift plate when installing an engine for a dual quad GT 500?   Did you remove both carbs?  Which carb (front or back) did you use to install the lift plate?  I read that an aluminum intake is fine with a lift plate as long as you thread the bolts in securely  Additionally, I am considering the Mac's Pivot Plate as an option.  Any experience/testimonials with it?

Finally,

Here is what I am considering on the day of installation ...

1) Early start with lots of coffee and friends that know what they are doing!
2) Use packing blanket or other material to protect engine compartment
3) Lift rear of car
3) Hoist engine and trans together
4) Clear radiator support and then tilt engine
5) Gently guide engine/trans until trans touches floor jack
6) Jack up rear of trans while leveling engine to motor mounts

I have headers.  Some have suggested loosening the passenger side header for ease of installation.
What about power steering sleeve and valve.  Should I remove them first?

Celebrate Big Block reunion!  Last installed in 1973!

Thanks
Ron

SAAC Forum Discussion Area / Oil Embargo of 1973
October 03, 2018, 05:39:23 PM
67 GT500 #861.

I talked with the 2nd owner of my car (Kevin Mahoney 1968-73).
Kevin mentioned that he rebuilt the original engine in 1968-69 time line,
but actually removed the engine/trans in 73 and replaced with a small block 289.

He said the gas crisis was a killer on big block cars and he could not afford to pay for the gas.
I don't recall the impact of that embargo as a 14 year old, but I do remember the
1979 crisis as I got into a fight with a line cutter! LOL!

Tried to find a Shelby in a gas line in 73 but the best I could do was a 68
Fastback and 66 coupe.

Anyone else with a Shelby that had a similar fate or story?

Hey Guys

Sorry for all the questions.  My car is an original GT 500 automatic, but when I purchased it a PO had swapped out the 428 for a small block 4-speed back in the early 70's.  Something to do with being in college and no money for gas!  LoL!

The first pic is one from my internet library of 67 Shelby cars.  I believe this pic is from Virginia Mustang and an original GT500 auto that they were cleaning up and trying to keep as original as possible.  If you can see just above the neutral safety switch it looks like a J hook holding the neutral safety wire in place.  Is this correct?

The 2nd pic is my transmission and trying to get the correct pieces in place before reinstalling.  Does my set up look correct?  J hook, and spring routed back to a small clip?  What am I missing beside the elusive shifter rod and transmission tube.  Can't seem to find those two pieces anywhere.  If you have one and willing to sell it, please PM me.

Thanks

Ron

Got everything back together and installed. However, I am still trying to locate the c6 shift rod.

I also refurbished the emergency brake mechanism and added a new handle.

I noticed today that the transmission has a broke bolt in it (one of the two that goes to the transmission mount)  Good grief!  Any ideas on how to get it out?
