1965 GT350/R-Model / 65 GT350 Oil pressure wire routing
October 23, 2019, 04:43:23 PM
Would someone post a pic of a 65 GT350 with proper taping and placement of the original Ford oil sender wire that was replaced by the braided line and folded back and taped  on the drivers side intake?
Thanks

Looking for a owner of a 65 GT350 that has converted from dual points to the Pertronix 1281D solid state ignitor system.
Have 3 questions.
1. Did you bypass the 9 volt pink resistor wire?
2. Did you use original yellow top coil or change to another coil? If you changed coil, what coil did you use?
3. Did you alter the original wiring to the 65 Cobra tach?
Thanks

Replicas and Tribute / Pertroniix 1281D
October 14, 2019, 12:54:35 PM
Am considering installing a Pertronix 1281D dual point conversion kit in a 289 HiPo dual point distributor. Have always been old school but willing to step up to pointless ignition. 65 used a pink resistor wire to reduce voltage to coil. Appears the Pertronix device utilizes a collar with imbedded magnets that slips over the point cam shaft. As the collar rotates, the magnets pass the "trigger" and make/break signal to coil in same manner points opening and closing do. Thus, the electronic device mounted to the points plate is simply a electronic set of points. My question is, do I need to bypass the pink resistor wire and feed 12 volts to the coil or will the pertronix ! Ignitor work just fine with the pink wire connected? Secondly, can/will addition of a Pertronix ! Ignitor kill a original 65 GT350 tach?

Wanted to Buy / WTB - Detroit Locker Components

I need 2 pair of 28-spline side gears for a 65 9" Detroit Locker. Also need 1 Clutch with good holdout ring and 2 of the "small" springs that sit between the spring retainer and the side gear.
Thanks

Can someone tell me if the Holdout Ring in a 28-spline Detroit Locker is same as the Holdout Ring in a 31-spline locker?

Can the 65 mustang heater box be installed with the glove box in-place or must cardboard glove box be removed and reinstalled after heater box is installed?

Replicas and Tribute / 65 Steering Box
June 29, 2019, 07:35:56 PM
Ford produced three different steering boxes for the 65 model year.
1. HCC AW, Power steering, 16:1, 3 3/4 turn lock to lock.
2. HCC AX, Manual steering, 16:1, 3 3/4 turn lock to lock.
3. HCC AT, Manual Steering, 19:1, 4 5/8 turn lock to lock.

The 65 GT350 was shipped with the HCC AX box with the unique pitman and idler arm to quicken the steering even more.
Is there a difference in the HCC AW and the HCC AX 16:1 boxes? If so, what is it?

Second question. What determines the ratio? Is it the worm gear at end of main shaft or the block gear with the ball bearings or the gear at the top of the pitman? Or all three. Is there a difference in the cases for manual versus power?

Thanks

Replicas and Tribute / 65 Turn Signal Cancel Cam
June 28, 2019, 11:08:21 PM
Have a 65 A-code that had a Grant steering wheel installed that utilizes its own version of the Ford signal cam cancel part that slipped on spline of old steering wheel. Am putting a 65GT350 replica 6 bolt adapter and steering wheel back on the car and was able to locate a really nice turn signal cancel cam piece from Brad that fits the backside of my adapter. Assembly mounts and turn signal works like it should. Even the turn signal cancel cam does its job and cancels the left/right turn when the wheel is turned the appropriate way. However, if the turn signal is moved to a left turn position and the wheel is turned to the left, I see the turn lever jump as though the plastic turn signal mechanism is engaging the cancel cam. I can even hear it as well as see lever move. Same happens with a right turn.
I have another car and when left turn signal is initiated and wheel is turned left, all is quite and the signal lever does not move until wheel is turned back to right.
Even moved the quiet wheel and adapter to the noisy car and its still noisy so I don't think its the adapter or cancel cam. Any suggestions? I don't remember ever seeing or hearing the turn signal lever act this way.

Replicas and Tribute / 65 Mustang JBA 6610S Headers
June 26, 2019, 09:14:33 PM
Anyone running JBA 6610S stainless steel long tube headers on their manual steering 65/66 Mustang? Interested to see amount of clearance between number 5 tube and the pitman arm with steering wheel turned fully to left. Pictures would be terrific. Have a 65 with these headers and clearance between number 5 and pitman is minimal with left turn....If can't get pics, give me estimate of clearance 1/2" or whatever...

Car has a Grant steering wheel installed and horn is failing. Grant uses couple roll pins to cancel turn signal. Original cancel cam was removed and is gone. Have a repop wheel boss for 6-bolt wheel that is identical to the 65 GT350 adapter. I need the Ford turn signal cancel cam that attaches to the adapter. Anyone have one?
Believe its part number C5ZZ-13318

I have never taken a front seat apart, but am about to dive into it.
Even though the seat back adjustor bolt is extended, the Pass seat leans back excessively. I run out of adjustor before seat back is in a "normal" position. And then, seat back is really spongey. Am looking at the seat back adjustor plate that has the 2 screws connecting it to the seat frame. Really looks like the plate is sunk into the seat frame quite a bit. From pictures I have seen, the tube that comprises the seat base frame appears to be on same plane. However, this tube seems to have a "dip" in rear which appears to allow the plate to be at a deep angle. Anyone ever have this type problem and other than replacing the seat base frame, what did you do to fix it?

Have a reproduction ignition switch in a 65 A-code that will not easily allow key to return to on position after start. Anyone have a nice original one sitting around looking for a new home? Would like to have matching tumbler and key if possible.
Please PM me as I have cluster ready to go back in and want to fix this sooner rather than later.
Thanks

Have a 65 Mustang instrument cluster and am having hard time keeping the oil and alternator lamp socket in the cluster. Socket will stay in place until you move the cluster, then it falls out. What do you do to keep the socket inserted in the cluster? Replace socket with something that fits tight, glue it in or something really drastic?

The rear side panels of a 65 fastback each contain a courtesy light that has a tube bonded to the back side of the panel. What purpose does the tube serve?
Have a car in shop that is missing the pass side courtesy light tube and have really never thought of why they are there in first place.
Thanks

Ask a Registrar / 65 GT350 Registrar
April 20, 2019, 07:22:28 PM
Has there been any discussion of creating a searchable reference document that contains data for each year that includes data points such as ride height front and rear, spring suppliers, front and rear, spark plugs, etc.? Might consider links to pictures of original parts and their Ford part numbers.
Thanks for considering

Replicas and Tribute / 65 Headers
April 09, 2019, 10:05:01 PM
For those of you with 4-tube headers on your 65 mustang 289/302 Windsor with a C4, what brand header did you select and why? Did you have clearance issues between collector and e-brake cable pivot point on drivers side? Header really close to drivers side frame right where hard fuel line is?
The old hookers I have dry fitted are too close to gas line and conflicts with emergency brake bracket mounted at front inside on drivers side frame rail. Other than getting a bigger hammer, not sure what to do here short of ordering a different supplier in hopes theirs fit better than the Hookers.

Replicas and Tribute / 65 Coil Spring
April 07, 2019, 07:31:00 PM
65 A-code with 1" drop applied to the upper control arm With the car frame rails sitting on jack stands and the wheel off the car, the upper control arm is as "relaxed" as it gets. How much pressure is the coil spring under at that point?

Replicas and Tribute / 65 Dual Fans for Radiator
March 27, 2019, 06:44:24 PM
Interested in obtaining suggestions for sourcing a dual fan radiator shroud for a 65 Mustang with a 331 stroker. Don't need the radiator, just some experience you might have as to best fan, size, etc.
Thanks

Replicas and Tribute / 65 EFI Return Line
March 22, 2019, 11:38:43 PM
Am installing the MSD Atomic 2900 EFI into sons 65 fastback and an curious how others mounted the return line to the fuel tank. Have seen some that mounted the fuel pump close to tank without a return line. Others mount pump in tank and must engineer a return of some sort. Any guidance on how best to do this?
Thanks
