The OP's question was about the trend of certain Shelby vehicles at auction and I think it's important for the OP to understand that there are various factors affecting bidders:
1) They may have had too much to drink/or not 2) Someone else wants that same vehicle and ego gets in the equation or no one else showed up that wants the vehicle 3) The quality of the restoration/survivor 4) The history of the vehicle 5) The color of the vehicle 6) The location of the auction 7) When the vehicle is scheduled to cross the block. 8) How desperate the owner is to sell 9) What's the "latest and greatest hot ticket" 10) time of the month/position of the Moon and Stars 11) Whether or not the bidder's wife is with him...or his girlfriend...or, Heaven forbid, both! ;)
Agree to all that..... The bottom line is if they want that particular car they are going home with it, AHHH Auctions can be awesome. ;D

+1 on all that.  And don't forget the aggressive hyping, teases, and circus atmosphere that makes many men empty their wallets like they were at a supermodel strip club.

Thanks, I was also told over the years not to travel abroad with it. They'll cut your arm off in certain countries.

You don't have to be in foreign countries to worry about your well being, just cruise around some big cities like LOS ANGELES or CHICAGO they will cut your arm off for a 50 dollar timex. Don't wear red or blue clothing either, they think you might be representin. :-\

We have so many diverse people, with so much knowledge of different things, it would be wonderful if we could stick to our expertise with out wandering off to insult others.  God knows we have car show experts- Worlds greatest 68 experts- Those that hate certain rock bands :-[, Those that hate 67s with stripes. Point being is, if those people stuck to their expertise without constant condemnation of others, it would be a better place for all. In the scheme of things we all like different things, car shows, rock bands, worlds greatest 68s etc. All these things are put out there for knowledge and understanding if your into any of it. If your not don't look at it, don't comment on it and just move along. Common sense doesn't seem common these days. To those that are pissed off, try to give it a little more time before giving us the number one salute. :-\

Jim..... Good luck on your search for info after all this time. I wish I had some pics of it when I wanted to buy your car, apparently just before you guys bought it when it was black. You know I ended up purchasing its engine with all its go fast parts from its race days, I used the engine in one of my cars over the years and sold the cylinder heads to someone that owned one of the BIRDCAGE racers from back in the day at one of the santa monica pier gatherings in LOS ANGELES about 15 years ago or so. Those heads came on your car and had the banana ports welded up with valley head service stampings on them. Huge fender flares with a GT 500 front end grafted on to it didn't exactly make my DAD happy back then- It could have been me looking for this info... Be well my friend :)

JD... Thanks for the reply as well, good to hear you pop in once in awhile. Doug thanks for the reply also, so what do you recommend for this? I cringe not knowing how you might respond, but always love the banter. ;D

Thanks again BOB for the reply... Would a paint product called adhesion promoter be good for this process or not. I want it to look as natural as possible without filling in the grain. Multiple light coats?

Not completely on-topic but here is my Jim Morrison story.

I lived and worked for several years in Alexandria Virginia, just a few blocks from George Washington High School, the high school that Jim Morrison attended.

My wife and I were living in a duplex which was built in the '40s. We owned one side and on the other was an older gentlemen who we got along with well and who lived in his side all alone - his wife having long since passed away and their only son also long gone with a family of his own.

The time finally came that the old gentlemen needed to be moved into a nursing facility and the son came to facilitate that. I offered to lend a hand and while loading stuff up I noticed the son's George Washington yearbooks. I asked if I could have a look and searched immediately for Jim Morrison. Found him in what is now a well publicized class photo and pointed it out to the son. He said he remembered Jim well (not a very big school). I was amazed to find out that the son was not at all familiar with The Doors and Jim Morrison's subsequent fame and fortune and early demise  :P

Even further off topic, I discovered one of my professional colleagues lived almost his entire life in Toronto and absolutely no idea who Geddy, Neil and Alex were.

:P
Remember the story of some MYSTERY woman claiming to know the whereabouts of SAID car, and made a phone call to someone, gave some info on it, then quickly hung up. I believe I spoke to that woman and she thought she knew some things, but she was a by product from that era, and partied her entire life which took its toll on her health. I feel she has passed away given her health issues, and the time that has passed. She wasn't nuts just a little foggy about some details, and that car has been accounted for. Under the cover of darkness it was pulled out of storage and the new owner hauled it away for a new lease on life. Where it went is any ones guess, but it was saved. :)

This is a question for the do it yourselfers..... What is the process to paint interior panels without filling in the grain or texture to all the interior pieces. I do realize there are people that do this work for a living but I wanted to do this myself without sending panels every which way for painting.

I would like to add a little to this thread... My car was taken off the road the same time Morrisons car was approx. 1971, My car is a nightmist blue car as well, number 1189. For a time I thought I had Jims car before the number came to light. Anyway the pictures that keep appearing, the lighter blue crushed car appears to be Acapulco blue, not Nightmist blue. 48 years later... mine is coming back to life. I hope this one does as well, but back in the day it was just a used up Hot Rod :-\

I suppose a 12 cylinder JAG would be a great high speed cruiser. He doesn't strike me as a balsy driver or even his buddy Dennis with the polished fingernails, and color treated hair :-[ Pictures don't lie... A right up on these well prepped cars would be fascinating to me.
