68CountrySedan:  Crying and being scared shitless doesn't come across as a sissy? Really?

I never expected a documentary, but creation of a narrative spell that isn't broken. HFII crying; spell broken. Revs go up; spell broken. IMHO

I guess "sissy" is in the eye of the beholder . . .  and context is everything.  in the film, HFII and Leo Beebe are trying to kick Ken Miles off the team.  in an effort to save Ken, Carroll more or less forces HFII into the car and then purposely takes him on a crazy hot lap, just so HFII will understand that, while he may be rich and know the car business, he knows nothing about racing or race drivers . . .  btw, the first thing HF says when he gets in the car is "I just sat on my balls."  funny stuff.

i've already acknowledged that people on this forum will definitely have some cringes.   the movie wasn't made for SAAC members, it was made for the general population as a piece of entertainment.  i think it succeeds, even though some "dramatic license" was taken in many areas.  try to put your  finely-tuned knowledge and expertise aside, and just sit back and enjoy a great sports movie.

just chiming in on the Henry Ford II scene:   first of all, Tracy Letts is one of our greatest living actors (and playwrights), and he kills it in this film . . . second, the particular scene we're discussing is funny as hell, and has some unexpected nuance.  yes, he's scared shitless, but he's also very emotional about being in such a fast and highly developed automobile that bears his grandfather's name.  so, yeah, he's crying, but he doesn't come across as a sissy.  on the contrary, the movie makes it clear that LeMans is "the Deuce's" no-expense-spared vendetta to get even with Enzo for humiliating him over a possible sale of Ferrari to Ford . . .   guys, the movie isn't perfect, and every time Ken shifts from third to fourth and the revs go UP, you will cringe.  but it's a very good (Hollywood) movie (NOT a documentary), and i think you'll all be satisfied watching it on the big screen.
JMHO,
Alan

a premiere at the Convention would be amazing . . .   if anyone is in touch with the SAAC-44 organizer(s), please have him/them contact me at werthie "at" AOL, and i'll forward their contact info to Disney's marketing gurus.

i'm working on it . . .  can you think of a good venue in So Cal where the parking lot is adjacent to the theater, so we can turn it into a combination movie-and-car-show event?  i'm pals with a marketing exec at Disney, who is working on this film, and she'll help us organize a word-of-mouth screening.

i'm reluctant to type any "spoilers," but there are many interesting relationships in the movie (e.g., Shelby with Miles, Miles with his wife and son, the Shelby team and the Ford bureaucracy, etc.) . . .  one of my favorite actors, Tracy Letts plays Henry Ford II ("Deuce"), and there's a great scene where Shelby takes him for a hot lap in a GT40.  did it ever happen?  who cares! . . .  the bad guy in the piece is Leo Beebe, Ford's right hand man who (supposedly) did everything he could to get Miles off the team, and who (this is true) masterminded the 1-2-3 photo finish of the race, thereby depriving Miles of the triple crown (Sebring, Daytona, LeMans).   OK, no more . . .  you guys will enjoy the film, i promise!!

for you purists, there are a few cringe-werthie moments . . .  like when the tach is at redline, and ken shifts into fourth gear, and the revs go UP . . .  but, hey, it's a movie and will hopefully be watched by more people than those of us on the SAAC Forum.

i saw the film this morning at a Fox screening . . .   very well done and very entertaining.  surprisingly (to me, anyway), it's more a movie about ken miles than about carroll shelby . . .  i can't speak to historical accuracy, but i think they got the big beats right, and you'll all be happy.  christian bale is a great ken miles.

If you live in the Los Angeles area, I highly recommend P Zero World on Santa Monica Blvd for mounting/dismounting our '66 ten-spokes:

https://pzeroworld.pirelli.com/en-us/los-angeles/overview

they have state of the art equipment, and the technicians really know their stuff.

they also sell new repros of the Pirelli CN36 in various sizes.  i have a set on my Bugeye.
